For years I have recommended Alpine Animal Inn. Sadly they did not last through the covid lockdown. We had to go to New Jersey for a wedding earlier this month and I searched for a new kennel. We decided on Rampart Kennel and they were just awesome. I highly recommend them.

Alpine Animal Inn our recommended boarding facility that we have used for years is closed, a casualty of the pandemic. We need to board our new Lakeland later this summer. Anyone have a recommendation?

Training memo 1
Your dog has a vocabulary, words that they know the meaning of, but the dog does not speak English. Therefore, a command should have one clear and consistent meaning. Your dog does not understand the difference between to, too and two. So, if a dog thinks a command has two meanings, they will probably pick the one they want to do, not what you want.
An example I saw with many people whose dogs I worked with was the word sit. Sometimes it was just a posture command, sit means rear end on the ground. Other times it meant stay in that place.
Many times, I saw the dog’s person say sit meaning stay in place. The dog sat for a moment and then went and did what they wanted to do anyway.
I taught sit as a posture command and wait as a no movement command. If I said “wait” the dog was to remain in that place until released. When I said “sit wait” it meant stay in that place in the sit position until released. Then there was no doubt what was expected of the dog.

It has been over a year now since I closed the training center. I’ve enjoyed the lifestyle of retirement even if the pandemic limited what I could do. I’ve had time to read and catch up on my various hobbies.
But I sit here with the knowledge and experience of working with dogs and owners. And I realize that this is a place to share it with not only those who I have worked with but with the surprising number of people who find and like this page.
So here goes.
There is no such thing as a dumb dog. Dogs are top end predators, descended from wolves, shaped by selective breeding for a job. They may be silly, they may be enthusiastic, they may be defiant, but they are not dumb.
If you know someone who says they have a dumb dog, they are wrong. They have a smart dog that has figured out that acting dumb pays well.

The coronavirus has put everything on hold. I will still be doing Neighborhood Pack in the Park when the restrictions are lifted and it is safe to do so.
