No, I'm not a Husky. I'm an Alaskan Malamute I want EVERYONE to know the difference between a Husky and an Alaskan Malamute. We are two very different breeds even though our features are similar.

My name is S**a. I was born to a breeder. He sold me for a lot of money to a young guy. I guess he was trying to use me as a chick magnet. I thought he loved me, I was so wrong. He got a girlfriend and she had a little girl. I was really excited about it at first, because I was going to get more people to love me. I was so looking forward to playing outside and being taken on long walks. Boy was

I wrong. It was a huge disaster! The girlfriend didn't like me very much. She complained that I left hair everywhere. I'm an Alaskan Malamute, that's what we do. We don't wear clothes. We have fur, lots of it. I shed four times a year. i can't help it. It is just part of being a sled dog. Anyway.....the girlfriend's little girl was a spoiled brat! She was out of control and bit me on the muzzle (that's my FACE). I WAS TERRIFIED! I didn't know how to react, because I was still a puppy. I mean I was big, but I was still a puppy in my head and in my heart. I snapped at her, because it hurt. She was in my space. I didn't know what else to do. She fell back. I didn't mean to do it, but that's what happens when you frighten a puppy or even a grown dog for that matter. The girlfriend was all kinds of mad at me. She hated me after that. The guy that bought me sent me to DOGGIE JAIL! I thought we were going bye bye. I have never felt so betrayed. I was terrified at first, then I was sad....for a very long time. I was bounced back and forth for a few months between a "KILL SHELTER" and a "NON-KILL SHELTER". I'm a big guy so I scare people because of my size. I don't mean to do it. I'm just big..... There were so many doggies there. I was put with a bigger dog than me. He was a Great Dane. They put him in the same cage with me. He scared me, because he squashed me a couple of times. Then this BEAUTIFUL LADY MARINE SAVED MY LIFE!!! She gave me a different name. She named me "DRACO". Draco is a constellation in the far northern sky. I was named by a Marine that said I deserve to be given a name of a constellation that NEVER SETS! HOW COOL IS THAT?!!! People came and left. I was not listed as a nice dog right away, because of the little girl that hurt me. People didn't want to adopt me. One of my family members came to see me, her name is Ariela. Ariela was taking finals. She's a super-smart human. I placed my paw on the cage like I was going to shake to get her attention. SHE SAW ME! She then called my Mom right away, she sounded very excited. Mom showed up with Pappa. It was later in the afternoon. Mom looked at me and I licked her sneaker under the cage. It was the only way I could say "HI"! I didn't want to sound, too loud. I couldn't get my huge paws through the opening on my cage. It was so frustrating! Mom walked over to another Malamute that was older than me. He was grumpy because they took his "whatchamacallit's" off. He was wearing a lampshade on his neck. It was really weird. Mom came back. Ariela took me out. Mom smelled sweet like a candy bar. I went in to a big room with Mom and Ariela, we played a little bit. I was freaking out, because Mom smelled like candy bars. I could'nt figure out why. She was sad, too. Her good friend died. He was in the Army for a long time, like my Pappa. It got late so I went back to my cage. I woke up in the same cage the next day. Then THE BEST THING IN THE WORLD HAPPENED!!! Mom and Pappa CAME TO ADOPT ME!!!!! I GOT A FOREVER HOME!!! I was a little nervous. I sprayed (musked) in the truck. Mom and Pappa didn't get mad at all! Mom sat with me in the back seat. When we got home I had an instant family. Two cats were there. One punches me in the face sometimes. She's scary. She comes from Texas so she doesn't mess around. The other one likes to act a fool when Mom is around. Any other time we get along great. Pappa is disabled. He needs help breathing. Mom is diabetic, it took me a while to figure out why she smells like candy bars sometimes. My family LOVES ME!!!!! I am NOT ALONE NOW!!!

My Spirit Brother Winston has a heavy responsibility. He's watching over a little human. She's nice and cozy in her Cradle Board. Shasta alerts and runs to her when she makes the tiniest noise.

Shasta is always hungry. LoL. She ate already.

LoL! Shasta always blocks Mom's way. She heard thunder and kinda freaked out.

Have a safe 4th of July today. Keep the children and the elderly hydrated. Don't drink and drive and keep your dogs safe from fireworks. Be mindful of you Combat Veterans. Love Our Country!

Mom's picked up the drums to help her deal with my passing. Winston is her biggest fan. He will give her a huge howl, then he just chills.

Shasta always has a concerned look when Pappa takes too long to come upstairs. Then she smiles when she sees him.

Respect. Many of us Service Dogs were there during our lives to help our Combat Veterans keep it together when they had no one else. Many were called to help protect, track, find, and rescue for our beautiful Country. Salute!
