Joey a Differently-Abled Puppy This page was created to share Joey's journey and to raise awareness about "differently-abled" pups. We will also educate and advocate for spay/neuter.

My name is Joey and I am a "differently-abled", two legged Chihuahua mix puppy. My Mom, Andie was taken to a dog shelter in Salinas, Ca on October 10, 2015 and was left out in front of the shelter. The shelter staff tried to catch her when they came to work, but she was too scared and ran off in to the field close by. For a week they tried to trap her with no luck. On October 16, 2015 two guys who

were working in the field by the shelter brought me and my two brothers Dawson & Pacey to the shelter. They found us in a dirt pile and we were teeny, tiny and just days old. Our Mom was still too afraid for them to catch her. The shelter staff were desperate to catch our Mom so they put us in a trap to try and lure Mom in to the trap. We didn't like being in the trap so we cried and when Mom heard us, she went in the trap to get to us. Our poor Mom was so exhausted, hungry, tired and dehydrated from being in the field for a week trying to survive and care for us. On October 19, 2015 the shelter staff asked a wonderful rescue group Animal Friends Rescue Project if they would take me and my family in to their program. They said yes and sent one of their foster Mom's, Darla to pick us up. We are now in a nice warm home where we are being taken care of. We will stay with our foster Mom, Darla until we are old enough to get our vaccinations, be spayed and neutered and find our forever homes.
