Calling All Puppies! Puppy Playschool Starts next Tue!!

According to American Veterinary Society of Animal Behavior, “the primary and most important time for puppy socialization is the first three months. For this reason, the AVSAB believes it should be the standard of care for puppies to receive such socialization before they are fully vaccinated.” For more information on the AVSAB Position Statement on Puppy Socialization, please visit https://avsab.org/resources/position-statements/

A Well Mannered Pup is excited to offer a Puppy Playschool Class starting Tuesday, September 13 at 530. Class will be held at the Saluda Community Center, 64 Greenville St, Saluda. This class is for puppies from 7 weeks to 20 weeks. The focus of this class is to socialize puppies and introduce them to novel things in the environment. This will be done through games and play. Unlike a Basic Skills class, this class will be loosely structured with plenty of time for puppy parents to ask questions and receive support from the instructor, as well as other puppy parents. This class is on-going and will he held every Wednesday at 530. Students can attend one or more classes. Every class will be different. The cost of each one hour session is $20. Puppy parents must RSVP to each session by calling or texting 828-233-5489 or emailing [email protected].

As per the ABSAB, “Puppies should receive a minimum of one set of vaccines at least 7 days prior to the first class and a first deworming. They should be kept up-to-date in vaccines throughout the class. “ Proof of the initial set of vaccines will be required.

A Well Mannered Pup is looking for indoor space to do dog training. We've got a great outdoor space but would like to lease space for some indoor classes. This might be empty retail or warehouse space, a church basement or hall, indoor horse training ring, etc... Space would be used once or twice a week for two hour periods. Needs to be big enough to accommodate 6 dogs comfortably and within about 15 min of Saluda. Any and all ideas welcome!

Here's fabulous Layla. She's a Chocolate Lab that her family thinks is crazy. Turns out she's a very well bred Lab from Champion hunting stock. Guess what? That means she is super smart, very trainable and loves to work with a human. However, without enough time with her people and mental stimulation, she might seem crazy. So A Well Mannered Pup has been working with her family to create a plan that will help meet more of her physical, mental and social needs. We are also strengthening her basic cues and teaching her to relax on a mat.

Thea and her mom Wendy are doing a great job in our Basic Manners Class. Believe it or not, this beautiful Boxer was in a shelter for several years before Wendy adopted her! They are making great strides in teaching Thea to be a calm, confident dog.

Positive reinforcement training with a Certified Professional Dog Trainer

A Well Mannered Pup is accepting registrations for a Basic Manners Class, starting on Saturday, Sept 25 at 10 am. The hour long class will go for 5-weeks. The cost is $125. We'll be learning sit, stay, leave it, recall (come), down and loose leash walking. We will also address problem-solving behaviors like jumping and barking. For the love of dogs

It started with a Golden Retriever mix named Jake. He was my first dog as an adult and a perfect gentleman. He required almost no training. He moved in, we put his bed on the floor and lived happily ever after for eighteen months. Deciding he needed a sister, I adopted a 12-week old Border Collie mix, named Mae. That’s when things got interesting! This smart and active pup started me on a fascinating journey that increased my knowledge of dog behavior and deepened my appreciation for training. Numerous personal dogs have followed, each presenting their own unique qualities that have challenged me to learn more. My work over the next twenty years in animal shelters and as a professional groomer only increased my passion for these much loved, but sometimes misunderstood members of our family. It is with great pleasure and enthusiasm that I launch A Well-Mannered Pup. I look forward to working with you to create a training and exercise plan that will bring out the very best in your dog.
