Happy International dog day.

This is Pippa. Gene gave her to me for my 21st.

The bestest girl, she did everything with me. From being a guinea pig for me practising my clinical skills while still in vet school, to being my shadow when on vet jobs once graduated.

Pippa was not your typical Fox Terrier. She was super obedient and would do anything to please. People loved her, so much so that many referred to me as the vet who owned Pippa. 😂

Sadly Pippa succumbed to lymphoma far too young. I still think of her everyday, never forgotten.

Who’s ready to embrace the new year?

As someone who usually shies away from New Year's resolutions, I've decided to try something a bit different —a theme for the year, centred around a single, powerful word. And for 2024, that word is FEARLESS.

This choice didn't come out of thin air; it's rooted in a realisation that I've been feeling a bit stuck and lacking confidence in various aspects of my life over the past few years.

This is all due to a simple conversation on New Year's Eve about a special bottle of Bollinger I've been saving for my first million dollars with Your Vet Online. It brought a flood of emotions to the surface.

Being at the forefront of the online vet telemedicine realm in Australia has been a journey filled with challenges.

I've had to blaze a trail, facing the notorious Tall Poppy Syndrome that's all too familiar in the ANZ region.

I've been copied, I've faced setbacks, and I've lost friends along the way.

The competition, backed by hefty funding, often sees vet advice as a 'loss leader,' something the majority of the vet profession might not fully comprehend and which could potentially be our downfall.

Yet, with about 20 months to go until Your Vet Online reaches its 10-year milestone, I'm reminded that "Rome wasn't built in a day" and that an "overnight success" often takes a decade.

So, if I'm going to reach that $1,000,000 mark, it's time to kick my hustle into high gear. And to do that, I need to shed the fears that have held me back and reclaim the 'just do it' attitude that used to define me.

To achieve this, I'm also committing to getting brave. It's time to break the habit of going it alone and ask for help—a task I've been notoriously bad at.

I've witnessed the magic that happens when there's a strong team supporting a vision, and I want to emulate that success.

Asking for help may be a challenge, but I've spent years extending a helping hand to others, and now it's my turn to seek the support I need.

So here's to a fearless 2024, filled with bold decisions, renewed confidence, and the courage to ask for help when it's needed.

Let's make this year one for the books!
