Natural Monument Hokkaido Dog Preservation Society (DOKENHO) 2024 calendar is on sale. (In Japan)

It is packed with 78 Hokkaido dogs, including famous dogs that won Japan's top Hokkaido dog title, the number one dog in game hunting competitions, and members' pet dogs.

The cover art was drawn by Kathryn Dodd of the Hokkaido association of North America (HANA). (That is Small Person)

Amazing Hokkaido representation at UKC Premier Nationals this year! In total 13 Hokkaido got together at the event, though not all were entered in conformation it is still one of the largest gatherings of adult Hokkaido in the US.

Also there were a couple family reunions at the event. The white and red gang: mother Kibo with offspring Kiwi and Tater Tot, and their half-sibling (same sire, Nash) Aiko. The sesame gang: daughters Megaro, Buffy, and Pokku from different litters out of Gaigan and Minira.

Another "first" for the breed in the US, the first Total Dog Hokkaido~

From the UKC website: "Total Dog is a way to showcase dogs who look and perform equally well. The UKC Total Dog philosophy places an emphasis on dogs who shine in multiple venues, such as displaying the gait appropriate for their breed type while in the show ring, and then using that superb construction to effortlessly run full speed in a Lure Coursing race. A sound, well-bred, well-adjusted dog can easily transition from the show ring to a performance event. They have the looks to excel as a proper specimen of their breed, while also having the brains and ability to perform athletically in a variety of sporting events. To earn a Total Dog award, dogs must qualify in both conformation and an eligible performance event on the same day.

A Total Dog displays equal parts Function, Temperament, and Structure."

HANA members and their dogs (Buffy, Arashi, Aiko, Tater Tot, and Hana) participated in AKC Meet the Breeds in Columbus, OH! Thank you to everyone who stopped by to learn more about the Hokkaido!

The dogs were there for nearly 12hrs and they completely blew us away with how well they handled all the stranger attention, new dogs, and loud music 🥰

WOW!!!

In trials held in June and August, Saya was the first Hokkaido to compete in the National Sport Dog Association events urban locating (UL), trailing and locating (TL), shed dog (SD), and lost item (LI). She qualified in 24 runs out of 24, and earned her level one titles in all events in June (UL-1, TL-1, SD-1, and LI-1). She also earned 6 High in Class placements and was the 5th highest scoring dog in the trials, hosted by the K9 RatPack! in Pescadero, California. In August, she competed in UL-1, TL-1, SD-1, and LI-1, as well as level 2 for UL, TL, and LI. In the August trials, she earned 2 High in Class placements, qualified in 37 out of 39 runs, and was the 5th highest scoring dog in the trials (hosted again by K9 RatPack!). She's well on her way to earning her UL-2, TL-2, and LI-2 titles, as well as her Excellent titles in level 1 (UL-1X, TL-1X, SD-1X, and LI-1X).

Congrats Gaigan on finishing his Advanced, Superior, and Master precision coursing titles recently! He’s now running in the top Elite class and is the first Hokkaido to do so.

(Firsts come easy when your breed is so rare, especially with a new sport~)
