Young Horse Dentistry…. The incisors (front teeth) are easy to see- IF you look! This beautiful 3 yr old has a displaced incisor due to crowding. There is a small window where this can be easily corrected by cutting some enamel off of the adjacent deciduous (baby) tooth. Please check your young horses incisors regularly!!

Extracted this nasty fractured molar today…a COMPLETE ORAL EXAM is necessary every year. ***This requires sedation, a speculum, a bright light, and experience/knowledge. This would have been missed with a cursory ‘check’.

Two interesting cases this week. Both show how incredibly important an oral exam is (with sedation, a full mouth speculum and a bright light). Good dental care is IMPORTANT!!

EOTRH is such an awful disease. I’m glad I could help this sweet senior horse. When I wiggled the lower central incisors…large amounts of pus started pouring out.

These are tongue lacerations from sharp teeth. Are you SURE your horse is not in pain? A complete oral exam involves sedation, a speculum and a bright light.
