Import Local

Import Local Composting service offering fermented and probiotic foods, farm fresh eggs, nutrient rich soil, and more in exchange for residential kitchen waste.

Weekly and bi-weekly pick-ups are available for a small fee depending on location Import Local is a food repurposing service operating in the Greater-Boston area. With us subscibers get access to clean foods through a local network of participating farmers and homesteaders by contributing their kitchen waste for a short fee. Using a bucket system contributors throw their leftover or spoiled food

and discarded paper products into a bucket. Import Local picks up those buckets biweekly and in return offers another bucket for them to refill. We offer this exchange as an incentive for people to make less of a carbon imprint by composting with us. Along with a clean food item that comes from partnered local business we bring our subscribers into a closed-loop network by processing the waste permaculturally using animals, worms, insects, and bacteria to convert it into an all natural biomass in the form of clean meats, healthy eggs, livestock feed, and nutrients. Permacultural techniques that bring wonderful soil to our customers requires zero chemicals. Our most important employees are thousands of Red Wiggler Worms and armies of Black Soldier Flies. Along with participating farms animals around New England, nothing goes to waste at Import Local. Our Youtube videos keep our customers in the know as far as their food is concerned; where it is going as well as where it is coming from. Import Local is about empowering people at the most fundamental level; being able to have control over what they chose to eat.

The Communal No-till garden is growing well so far. The plastic seems to be keeping weeds down and the tomatoes and peppers love last year’s food waste. Hopefully, the natural pesticides like garlic, shallots, onions, and Carolina praying mantises keep the critters off the crop. Thanks for the support.

All the more reason to Import Local. We will be partnering with a local farm this summer for our subscribers here in Massachusetts. We carnivores must counteract this by keeping our meat purchases between locals and their respective local farmer.

A major New York Times investigation reveals how the United States' aquifers are becoming severely depleted due to overuse in part from huge industrial farms and sprawling cities. The Times reports that Kansas corn yields are plummeting due to a lack of water, there is not enough water to support the construction of new homes in parts of Phoenix, Arizona, and rivers across the country are drying up as aquifers are being drained far faster than they are refilling. "It can take millions of years to fill an aquifer, but they can be depleted in 50 years," says Warigia Bowman, director of sustainable energy and natural resources law at the University of Tulsa College of Law. "All coastal regions in the United States are really being threatened by groundwater and aquifer problems."

This reaffirms the need to buy and shop local as much as possible. Major food companies from pretty much every grocery store play a part in this supply chain fiasco unfolding. The New York Times reports:
We speak with the Pulitzer Prize-winning reporter Hannah Dreier, who revealed in a major New York Times investigation the widespread exploitation of migrant children in some of the most dangerous jobs in the country. In response, the Biden administration on Monday announced it would carry out a broad crackdown on the use of migrant child labor in the United States, vowing stricter enforcement of labor standards and better support for migrant children. "These kids are just on their own in these situations, with very little resources and very few ways out," says Dreier. We are also joined by Gregory Chen, senior director of government relations for the American Immigration Lawyers Association, who says migrant children need better protection from unscrupulous employers and others who would seek to exploit them. "Children don't have any knowledge or understanding of what their legal rights are," says Chen.

Buying local from a local, a theme we have been supporting at Import Local now, for over a decade. The idea of democratizing the most fundamental human need, which is food through dual circulation within the economy. Keeping small family business and alive that produce "clean foods" or organic foods takes a willingness to make an effort to support a local farmer even if it might cost a few extra dollars. Here is a story we will following in the coming months .
