I'm back to post updates and share my training tips and experiences from Atlanta! ;) Hope you stick around!
As promised!
We stop taking new clients on August 15th and close on September 1st. Please see our recommendations below for assistance with Behavior Modification and Training.
If you have questions, please don't hesitate to DM us! We'll be happy to help.
We are Closing!
Hello Everyone! This is Mandy. It's been quiet around here lately and for good reason.
I have accepted an incredible job offer in the Atlanta area with an incredible training business and we will be moving.
Paws for Life has been a dream of mine and we just celebrated 7 years in business.
We were the first force free company in the CSRA and the only company with a Certified Behavior Consultant on staff. I am proud of our accomplishments and along the way was fortunate enough to help many dogs and humans.
Our amazing trainers, Candice and Emily and of course, our superb Operations Manager, Amber were the ones who kept me going on the most difficult days. I can't thank them enough.
My goal is and has always been to help as many dogs stay in their homes as possible and for families and their dogs to live full lives. Being a business owner simply requires too much of my time and I am not able to do it all. This is one of the reasons I chose to accept this position as it allows me to solely work with dogs and their humans and have time left for family, friends, and my own pooches.
As we prepare our house for sale, we are so grateful for all of our friends we have met along the way. Leaving the Augusta area is something that will be on our hearts. I have been here almost all of my life. However, seasons change and this is a new season for me and my husband, Mike.
Thank you so much to all of our clients and social media followers. Without you, we would not be here. We appreciate you so much!
I will begin my new position the first part of September and am so excited! I love you all and will miss you tremendously!! xoxo
*********. IMPORTANT!! ***********
We will continue accepting behavior clients and 3 session packages registrations until August 15th. After that, we will not accept any new clients. We will be finishing up with any clients who have unexpired packages through the end of August.
If you need referrals to other trainers in the area who provide exceptional training and behavior modification, I will be posting these in a few days. You may also message me here and I will be happy to provide referrals.
Oz started training today! He is learning how to interact with his new cat brother.
As a service dog in training, one of the tasks Hugs is learning is to guard. This can be different for each person. This position is how my client feels most comfortable.
We want continuous stay in position and eye contact with the person in close proximity.
In this case we are also teaching a gentle touch so that hugs will nudge someone if they come too close.
Does your dog know how to lay down on cue? Do you have difficulty getting your dog to lay down? Check out this video and be sure to watch the end for troubleshooting techniques for those dogs who have more difficulty laying down.

Many don’t realize how much training goes into a service dog. There are hours and hours of public access training and more hours of skill and task training. Then the skills and tasks must be incorporated into public access.
This can be costly for the person needing the service dog. Hugs’ mom has put so much effort into training him and it shows. As he enters adolescence, there will be challenges with him but she has set a strong foundation to get them both through!

Good boy Herold worked on place in a variety of situations. The independence of the mastiff / cane corso and other guardian breeds can make training challenging at times. Herold did amazing today! #dogtraining #dogbehavior #positivedogtraining
I’m finally getting around to teach Storm how to stack donuts. Typically, I would have used more of a shaping technique instead but this wouldn’t have worked in her case. She is a dog who loves to tug and chew. Her favorite thing is ripping paper and boxes so with this exercise, I had to control her interactions with the toy so that she wouldn’t take it and chew it up. #dogbehavior #dogtraining #dogtricks #dogenrichment #trickdog

Today I made some Christmas candy and homemade aioli with the girls keeping me company. Mat work is my favorite technique for those tempting situations my dogs encounter. In the kitchen, it keeps them out from under me, off of the counters, and they know exactly what they're supposed to do. #dogtraining #dogtrainingtips #dogbehavior #gooddogs #certifieddogtrainer #evansga

Did you know that what your dog eats can directly impact your dog’s behavior? Most commercial foods have fillers and preservatives that can affect the way your dog feels and acts. Interested in learning how to make homemade food for your dog? It’s not as difficult as you may think. However, it is important that you’re dog is getting all of the required nutrients to keep them healthy. Comments or DM me if you’re interested in learning more and I’ll get busy making more content! #caninenutrition #dogbehavior #evidencebasedtraining #dogfood #behaviorconsulting
Dog Communication Dogs communicate with each other using what we refer to as body language. They use every part of their body to communicate. This includes their ears, mouth, body, tail, and more. In this video, my dogs Pepper (white and tan) and Storm (black and white) are engaged in what I will loosely call "play". In fact, Pepper is the one who wants to play. Storm is not particularly interested. There are many clues Storm gives to show her disinterest in playing. With Pepper's persistence, she does give in briefly then loses interest again. Recognizing their language and cues is the gateway to understand their communication with us (humans) since they communicate in the same fashion. What communication signals is Storm giving in the video that she isn't interested in playing? Comment below with your input! I will update with my analysis tomorrow. #dogbehavior #dogtraining #certifieddogbehaviorconsultant #certifieddogtrainer #dogplay #dogcommunication #doglanguage
