Yogi has had a busy time!

On Friday we had a 121 agility session with GO K9 This suitably but gently challenged and progressed his skills.

He slept all afternoon and half of Saturday!

Yesterday (Monday) we joined Pet Potential on their Bronze Good Citizens course. He has struggled working in this environment before, I was delighted to find his confidence has grown and he aced everything 👍👌

Adolescence is challenging!

I'll say that again. ADOLESCENCE IS **CHALLENGING**

All those hormones rampaging around, challenging behaviours, "forgetting" everything they've learnt, running off in class, challenging other dogs ...

The solution? Castration? Adversive methods?

**NO!**

Adolescence is a natural part of growing up, we all went through it.

How about a bucketful of patience, upping the rewards, more 121 time (instead of always walking with the other dogs), more short training sessions, more human/dog play .....

Anything else would be shortcut.

I remember Trevor (my 14 yo poodle cross) doing the same thing in his adolescence, despite having been cut earlier.

We will get there.

Remember. ADOLESCENCE IS CHALLENGING, not just for you but for your dog (horse, child ...)

Yogis fourth (and final, for now) 121.

He has gained so much confidence over the past 4 weeks 😁

Today, on the surface, he didn't do so well.

There comes a time when you have to up the difficulty (just a smidge) and expect more to get more .......

Yogi took a bit of time to work it out, but patience, persistence and praise always pays off.

We introduced the seesaw this session.
**PLEASE GO TO A PROFESSIONAL TRAINER TO DO THIS SAFELY, CONFIDENTLY AND PROGRESSIVELY). I'm going very slowly with Yogi and the seesaw. It would be far too easy to permanently ruin his confidence. I'm really happy with the progress made today with this new skill.

We were lucky enough to be offered a 121 by the trainer I've been working with since Trevor (now 14!) was a baby.

This session was so much fun and makes me think Yogi has the potential, in a couple of years time, to be as good as Trevor was.

I had this issue with Josie and Pip at this age. It sometimes takes time to find something they really enjoy to trigger them into opening their minds (and building confidence) to learn the run-of-the-mill stuff .....

Although Yogi has been in my classes since he was weeny, taking part in another trainers class, in a different venue is not the same!

The second fear phase hit us hard, we're very much working on confidence in new places.

I took Yogi to the Six Bells Tractor meet this morning (Boxing Day).

It was very busy with lots of people, dogs and tractors. He handled it like a pro, alternately in my arms and confidently on the floor (a potentially scary place when your only 3¼kg).

Nice work Yogi.
