Origin of the White Swiss Shepherd
The White Swiss Shepherd (WSSD), also known as the Berger Blanc Suisse, Weisser Schweizer Schäferhund (German) and Pastore Svizzero Bianco (Italian), is a dog breed originally from Switzerland. They are from the same origins as the White Shepherd and the German Shepherd Dog (GSD).
The WSSD History:
The first German Shepherd Dog that was registered by the Society for GSD (Verein für Deutsche Schäferhunde) was Horand Von Grafrath. Neither he nor any of his offsprings were white, although his great-grandsire on his mother's side was a white dog.
At the beginning of the German Shepherd Dog breed, all colours were accepted. Only in the early 20th century, Europe began to exclude the white gene.
