🥶It's getting cold out there🥶 We took some time today to ask some of our team some of their best advice for pet owners during this cold snap! Here is what they had to say:
-If it is too cold for you, it is too cold for them. Bring them inside. ~Rachel
-Don't leave a pet in a freezing cold car, and keep your pets indoors. ~Alyssa
-If you have horses, make sure to have a tank heater to keep their water thawed, preventing dehydration and further complications like Colic. ~Dr. Foust
-Protect and maintain their paws! ~Rosemary
-Blankets, bedding, etc. can all become wet with snow. Make sure especially if any of this is outside that it is being kept dry! ~Robin
-If your pet is holding up their paws, or chewing at the snow stuck between their toes, it is time to come inside. ~Delaney
- If you have active dogs like I do, the extreme cold can be tough to keep them from getting bored. My favorite way to combat that is indoor DIY enrichment treats! Something as simple as their favorite dog-friendly foods (we do pumpkin, plain yogurt, kibble, bananas and water) mixed together in a muffin tin - freeze for an hour or two and then let them enjoy a tasty puzzle treat that'll keep them busy for a little longer than usual treats! Scent-driven dogs might also enjoy kibble or favorite treats rolled and tied up in a towel for another fun indoor puzzle treat! ~Lara
-If you do have out door pets, make sure they have shelter that is dry and insulated, and to check their water regularly. ~Amanda
