We focus primarily on saving animals from 2 high-kill shelters in rural Kentucky. Our primary business locations are in Batavia and Plainfield, IL. We do not have a shelter for viewing animals. We are 100% foster home based and schedule meet and greets with approved applications only. We also hold adoption events so please keep an eye on our page for dates and times!

Hey there, I’m Jax! ? I’m a dashing 3-year-old Plott Hound/Lab mix with a heart full of love and 40 pounds of pure, tail-wagging joy. If you’re looking for a best buddy who’s equal parts fun and snuggly, I’m your guy!

Here’s the scoop on me:
I’m a certified cuddle champion. Seriously, if you’ve got a couch and a good TV show, I’ll be right there, ready to cozy up. Oh, and I’m a kissing pro too—I’ve got a smooch for every mood!

When I’m not snuggling, I’m all about adventure. I love playing in the yard, splashing in the doggy pool, and going for walks (leash-walking skills? Nailed it!). I’m also a fan of plush toys and have a blast romping with my foster dog pals or playing "tag" with the neighbor’s pup through the fence.

I’ve got my manners down—potty trained and proud of it. Plus, I get along great with cats and even a bunny in my foster home. Talk about a well-rounded guy! ?
My dream home? I’d love a family with kids aged 13 and up and a securely fenced yard where I can play to my heart’s content. If that sounds like you, we’re a match made in doggy heaven!

Starfish is looking for a few reliable people to help us with some ‘behind the scenes’ stuff. Nothing crazy but people to manage the Starfish puppy room (weigh new intake, sometimes vaccinate), someone to coordinate foster bags and supplies, grant writer, help orient/screen new fosters. Are you looking for a worthwhile way to volunteer? We want to hear from you. Website/constant contact expertise a plus. 🙋🏻‍♀️🙋‍♂️🙋🏻We are only as good as the support team and we need you.

Guess what? I’m ready to be your new best friend—just in time for the holidays! Born around 9/27, I may be small, but my heart (and energy) is HUGE. I’m adventurous, curious, and always up for some FUN! Tug-of-war? I’m a champ. Big dogs? Bring ’em on—I’ve got confidence for days.

I might stay on the smaller side as I grow up, but don’t let that fool you. I’m bold, smart, and always ready to outwit you (in the cutest way possible, of course). Hi, I’m Adam! A 3-year-old, 28-pound lab/hound mix with a big heart and a playful spirit. I’m a pro at loving life—whether it’s snuggling on the couch, snoozing in my dog bed, or making you laugh with my goofy upside-down rolling in blankets.

I’m a squeaky toy enthusiast, a food connoisseur, and a certified “good boy” (foster mom’s words, not mine). I adore other dogs, tolerate cats, and am a social butterfly on walks—I’ve yet to meet a human I didn’t charm!

I’ll keep you company while you work or relax, gifting you with adorable grunts when you hit the spot during butt scratches. I’m working hard on my house training and leash skills and love a fenced yard for zoomies and squirrel patrol.

Our next event is scheduled for December 26, 2024 - January 1, 2025. Lazy Dog Restaurant has graciously partnered with Starfish for this event.
Come out and have an amazing dinner with friends and family after Christmas and support Starfish Animal Rescue. After the holidays, everyone deserves a night off of cooking to relax and enjoy a night out.

A special THANK YOU to Kim and her merry team of volunteers, who work tirelessly for months to put this amazing event on each year. Thank you to our bakers, crafters & donors of all the amazing items used to put the raffle baskets together! I just wanted to post a public acknowledgement and thank you to all who participated in our annual fundraiser, Santa Paws. This has been a personal fundraising project for Starfish that Kim Walsh pretty much single-handedly has managed. Sure, there is help from some donors and volunteers including our fabulous swag opportunities (thank you everyone who helps in general with Santa Paws) but Kim does the lions share of the work. If you have been around Santa Paws - you know that is true. I’m sure she is already starting today for next year. This type of commitment and accountability is pretty rare these days. Kim is the real deal and helps us be able to help those animals in need.
I missed Santa Paws this year due to a scheduled Hip to Snip clinic but I saw most of the baskets and remnants of a very good time that was had to help the animals. Thank you again to Kim and the Santa Paws support team. I am truly humbled and grateful. ms

Great Dane alert!! Beautiful Trixie is just sitting here waiting for her perfect forever family to come and scoop her up. In return, she will provide you with an XL amount of fun, friendship, and love.
Tixie is 4 years old and weighs about 102 lbs. Trixie is so very sweet and always wants to cuddle. Does she know that she is 100 lbs and not a lap dog? She certainly does not! She loves to be the center of your world. She is super smart and treat motivated her, so training her has been and will be a joy. She is protective of her home but not at all aggressive, and she has become BFFs with the resident dog. Since she doesn't really understand her size, we would like to place her in a home with kids 12 or older only. We also would like her in a home with a securely fenced in yard. She has been waiting patiently for months and wants nothing more than her own family for Christmas.

Double the love 💙💙Meet Chestnut & Graham!

Hi there! We’re Chestnut (the handsome brown and white pup) and Graham (the adorable tan, white, and black cutie), a bonded pair of playful, loving puppies looking for our forever home together. We may have had a tough start in life, but we’re focused on the future—filled with love, laughter, and lots of tail wags!
Here’s the thing about us: my brother Graham is visually impaired and relies on me (Chestnut) for guidance. But don’t think for a second that it slows him down! Together, we’re an unstoppable team of fun and snuggles.
We absolutely love to play—whether it’s with plush toys, bully sticks, or each other. Outside is where we really shine, running around, chasing leaves, and exploring the world with pure puppy joy. We get along wonderfully with other dogs, cats, and even the resident bunny in our foster home. And people? Oh, we adore everyone we meet!
Our foster mom says we’re champion snugglers and give the best puppy kisses. We’re also working hard on potty training and have already mastered “sit” (with “down” well on its way). She tells us every day how smart and sweet we are—she’s so proud of us!

The Starfish Mission

The mission of Starfish Animal Rescue is to rescue animals from high kill shelters, provide transportation of these animals to secure, non-kill establishments, to promote and facilitate responsible pet ownership, and to intervene in cases of animal cruelty. We commit to eliminating euthanasia of companion animals in North America one shelter at a time.

We are a rescue in the Chicagoland area with foster homes in many suburbs. Our primary business locations are in Batavia and Plainfield, IL. We do not have a shelter for viewing animals as all of our adoptable animals are with loving foster families.
