Hi garden friends and neighbors 👋 We just wanted to share here a few of the things that were made possible by donation sand support in 2024! 🌻 We are a garden resource network: Growing Pontiac exists to help make growing food more fun and successful for our neighbors, and to help develop habitat for our other-than-human community. Every dollar donated to our nonprofit goes to seeds, transplant growing supplies, beekeeping, and hosting classes and events! If you would like to support us, please check out this link: https://www.paypal.com/ncp/payment/4GKF77EC3TQEY 🍯
We are grateful for all the support and friendship we have grown over the years, and can't wait for 2025! Members, we are going into hibernation until January 2025 - we wish you all a safe, healthy and cozy winter ❄️😴

Thank you to all of our amazing volunteers who came out to learn, work and crack geodes at our Fall Intensive! We learned hands-on how to smother a lawn in the fall to prepare for a spring planting of native pollinator plants. We moved almost 20 yards of wood chips in 4 hours and now our wonderful hosts get to FULLY retire their lawn mower ;)
Stay tuned for a workday in the spring to see step two of this project unfold!

THIS SATURDAY!
*
We are very excited to partner with Michigan Dept of Health and Human Services for this amazing opportunity to TEST YOUR SOIL for lead in play areas and garden spaces!
SWIPE 👉👉to follow the instructions (for a video, check out bit.ly/Soil-Sample) in the discussion below to collect SAMPLES from the areas you would like a rapid soil test on. Multiple samples are ok! MDHHS team members will be on site to talk about the results and how to minimize the risks of lead contamination.
The soil test is most effective if the sample is DRY, so plan ahead a few days to get your sample and dry it, bag and label it for testing. Spread the word that we will be at the Paddock St community garden (parking available across the street at the Habitat for humanity parking areas) testing soil FOR FREE!
Bonus: Join Sylvia on site between 10 am and noon for a raised bed-building workshop.
RAIN DATE: Saturday, Sept 14th, same time and place. stay tuned!
*Accessibility notes: our community garden site does not have a curb cut, so there is a step up the curb. The ground can be a little uneven. There is a standard port-a-potty available on site. There are a few chairs available on site.
