HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!! Puppies & Kittens & Human Children grow up fast! A reminder that we’ll be closing early Thursday 10/31 at 1:00pm so our team can spend the Holiday with their families. We’ll be back to normal hours Friday morning!

And don’t forget!
🍭🍫🍬 Halloween candy like chocolate, gums (which can contain xylitol), and raisins are toxic to dogs and cats. If your sweet monsters raid the candy stash call a vet immediately for advice.

👻🎃 Make sure all Halloween costume pieces containing batteries, glow sticks, decorations, and ribbons are kept away from pets. These objects may pose a risk for choking, internal injuries like GI obstructions, or illness.

We hope you’re all having a fantastic season & have tons of fun this October!

Phew! We were so busy last week we didn’t have time to play online, but we still want to recognize our amazing Veterinary Nurses! Vet Nurse Week 2024 wrapped up last Friday & we definitely spent some time celebrating this team 🥳

We can’t even begin to thank our Certified Vet Techs for everything they do for this hospital! From providing direct patient care to your pets, monitoring anesthesia & assisting in advanced surgeries, helping our vets with consultations and appointments, serving as your direct point of care for any follow up questions or worries about your sweet animals, and showing up as teachers & mentors for everyone in this hospital- these women truly do it all.

We are so thankful for CVTs Sue, Beth, and Jen & we’re proud to be a practice that celebrates their role every day, not just in October. If you’re popping in for a visit feel free to take the time to thank them for everything our Vet Nurses do for the animals of this community!!

Happy Friday morning! 😍 🐶

How spectacular is our team?! Earlier this summer Dr. Allsopp travelled all the way to Texas to attend an advanced ultrasound course from our friends !! The details of this course far surpass baseline scanning skills and taught her more about diagnosing liver shunts, finding cystic and common bile ducts of the gallbladder, and even evaluation of structures of the neck like the thyroid and parathyroid glands!

We are so impressed that our wonderful Dr. Allsopp was one of only seven vets in attendance! She says she loved working with WAVE and, as always, it was a wonderfully educational experience. Stay tuned to hear more about her upcoming soft tissue intensive ultrasound course this spring- we’ll need your help with it, since she’ll need weekly volunteers for her ultrasound case study homework! 😎🩺🐈🐕‍🦺

No big deal, just restoring this puppy’s ability to walk on her hind leg again 😎

We know we’re not supposed to have favorites, but the TPLO knee surgery we do to repair ruptured cruciate ligaments (the doggy equivalent of an ACL) is one of the most rewarding procedures we do! It feels so good to see these patients for post-op check-ups and see them playing again after experiencing lameness and pain! 🦴 🪚 🐾 🦮

Say hello to the ever-incredible Dr. Shonk and to baby Irish Wolfhound, Fern, everyone 🌿. Fern presented for her first puppy visit with a significant dental malocclusion. This overbite is the result of a genetic abnormality & causes two main problems: pain and trauma from her lower canines striking the roof of her mouth, and her lower jaw was ‘trapped’ behind her upper canines, preventing normal mandibular growth. Fern underwent a dental procedure here at 11 weeks old to extract her deciduous lower canine teeth. This relieved the pain of tooth-to-palate contact, and is going to help her lower jaw grow to its full genetic potential. Unfortunately, many of these patients have jaws that remain too short, so Fern will be re-evaluated as she grows up to determine the next best steps as her adult teeth erupt. For now, she is pain-free and LOVES visiting all of her friends at the Vet! We’ll keep you posted on her story as this little giant continues to grow! 🦷🪥

Introducing our amazing human, Joslin!! She joined our team as a Veterinary Assistant in January 2024. She’s had a deep and life-long love of animals and has been committed to pursuing a job in the veterinary profession in order to care for them. Although Joslin is fascinated by the science of veterinary medicine her favorite part of working in this field is direct patient care, and forming bonds with each and every pet that comes in our door. Joslin is also enthralled with aquatic mammalogy and ecology, and hopes to learn more about that in the future!

Outside of work she loves to travel, visit coffee shops with friends, and spend time with her 5 beloved pets.

We are endlessly proud today of Dr. Kim Allsopp, who is one of this year’s recipients of the Julie Tewksbury Scholarship for Working Moms! This incredible opportunity is sponsored by our friends and is designed to help support the efforts of working moms who want to grow professionally and personally, and to help them become great leaders in their fields and in our community. Dr. Allsopp is seen here with co-recipient Alexa Plewa, owner of Andylex Youth Enrichment Program. Dr. Allsopp used this incredible scholarship to attend a post graduate abdominal ultrasound training course in Irving, Texas! She forever endeavors to expand her knowledge so she can provide a higher level of care for her patients. Specifically focusing on becoming even more skilled with the diagnostic tool of ultrasound – a niche in veterinary care that’s underserved. Dr. Allsopp’s long-term goal is to provide on-site ultrasound training to vets throughout more rural communities in New England. “I’m so grateful to have been awarded this scholarship,” says Allsopp.

And WE are so grateful to be part of a community that recognizes the incredible contributions that working mothers make; we are forever indebted to them for their endless hard work & dedication to both their kiddos and the clients (and pets!) they serve every day.

We are wishing a happy (and incredibly well deserved) retirement to our colleague Dr. Sandra Waugh at Windsor PetDental! Many of you and your pets have had the pleasure of working with Dr. Sandy for their dental needs, and we are so thankful for all she & Dr. McIntire have done for our community over the course of their careers. Our Drs. Allsopp and Russett, and Certified Vet Tech Sue Ferrera were recently able to spend a day in Vermont with Dr. Sandy learning more about advanced dental techniques! We were so thankful for the opportunity to learn from the best before this amazing practice closes its doors!

As our friends at Windsor PetDental reach the end of their tenure, Court Street Vet is more committed than ever to continue to meet the dental needs of the pets in this community! Our hospital has full in-house dental radiographs (now considered the standard of care for all dental procedures!), and several of our doctors have attended post-graduate continuing education to improve our skill set for surgical dental extractions. We are here to help you and your pet with periodontal disease, oral masses, fractured teeth, and more! 🦷🪥

In which we travel the world to bring the latest & most exciting orthopedic surgical procedures to our New Hampshire community! ✈️🌍🦴

Dr. Russett spent last week training with our friends at OrthomedUK to learn about a cutting edge procedure called the Ridgestop implant. This surgery is one of the treatment options for patellar luxation (a developmental condition in which the kneecap doesn’t track normally against the femur & slips off to the side). The Ridgestop implant is applied to the femur to create a prosthetic trochear ridge, which helps to prevent luxation.

Patellar luxation varies in severity and not all patients require surgical interventions, so it’s important to talk to your veterinarian about the best recommendations for your pet’s care. In many cases patients with patellar luxation experience difficulty walking, lameness, changes in weight bearing, and arthritis and pain.

Stay tuned for website updates with more extensive educational information about patellar luxation & if your pet is experiencing this condition then get in touch, we may be able to help!! 🐶🐱⭐️
