I remember arriving onscene, the vehicle crashed and the suspect ran. It was raining, and we had a vague direction the suspect fled. I let Ravi work the area on long line while I kept my eyes open for other people’s dogs since we were near houses. We did an area search until I knew Ravi had odor, we followed it to an open backyard where we located the suspect trying to hide by a garage. He failed to comply and tried to run and jump a fence where Ravi and I apprehended him. My supervisor handcuffed the suspect, who was crying about being bit. I requested EMS over the radio for the suspect for a “dog bite” and I recall feeling my cellphone vibrating like crazy, afterwards I checked it and it was messages from officers and deputies who overheard the radio traffic praising Ravi….
On Saturday, January 20, 2017 at approximately 9:17 p.m. McPherson County Deputies assisted Marquette PD with the search for an individual who fled the scene of a vehicle accident after a short pursuit as Marquette PD attempted to conduct a traffic stop for a violation. Deputy Somers and his partner, K9 Ravi along with another Deputy tracked the suspect to the backyard of a residence where the suspect was taken into custody by the Deputies after the K-9 was used to apprehend the fleeing suspect. The suspect was treated on-scene for minor lacerations, the K-9 and Deputies were not injured.
