To all our loyal clients,

We would like to announce a change to the Gateway Animal Hospital family. Many of
you have been seeing Dr. Stephanie McLemore for veterinary care over these last few
years. We would like to inform you that Dr. Stephanie will now be practicing under the
name of Dr. Darien McLemore. Dr. Darien’s pronouns are he/him. Rest assured; this will
not have an impact on the medical care your babies receive. However, if there are any
concerns, or you feel the need to reschedule or make different arrangements, please
don’t hesitate to reach out to us. We appreciate your patronage and support!

Sincerely,
Dr. Darien and the Gateway Family

Everyone is excited about the onset of spring and all the wonderful things that come with it: warmer temps, longer days, and flowers galore. But before you and your pets go out and get your frolic on, it’s important to remember a few safety tips:

➡️ Mind those mushrooms. Many poisonous mushrooms look like edible mushrooms and can make your pet very sick. Inspect your yard for mushrooms and watch your pet closely on the trail.

➡️ Garden with care. Fertilizers, insecticides, and herbicides can have ingredients that can make your pet very sick if they’re ingested.

➡️ Brush up on your pet first aid. More outdoor activity means a greater chance of injury and illness. Put together a simple pet first aid kit and know what to do in case of some common pet emergencies. Check out this pet first aid information from the AVMA for what to include in your kit and tips/techniques for providing basic pet first aid.

➡️ Bee aware. Bees and other insects are on the move in spring, and if your pet is stung, you’ll want to know what to do. Check for a stinger and remove it if possible. You can reduce swelling by briefly icing the area or applying a paste of baking soda and water.
Check with your vet about administering an antihistamine to stave off an allergic reaction.

➡️ Prevent and protect. Keeping your pets current on their parasite preventatives and vaccines is particularly important with warmer weather and more outdoor activity in the future.

If you have any questions about spring safety or need to schedule your pet for an appointment,
call us at 727-577-6500 today!
