Bubbles has been placed with a New Hope rescue

*** medical priority ***

She’s just a good old girl with her frosty face and her wagging tail. But BUBBLES looks older than her 8 years, and she came to the shelter with mammary masses and not a single note about her long life except that she was found abandoned in a building. Who could do this to such a sweet, gentle and loving senior who asks only for the love of the people she gave her heart and all her devotion too? But if we have learned anything it is that most of the people that desert their dogs care only for themselves, and very little for others. Bubbles has sat at the shelter since April 5th, hoping a nice family would have compassion on her and take her in. But she has been consistently passed over for younger dogs, or dogs that don’t have medical issues that need attending too. And if all this was not bad enough, she has managed to get the dreaded “shelter cold” that has now morphed into pneumonia and she MUST leave the shelter asap to get the care she needs to heal and live a quality life. She has faced hardships before and bravely soldiered on, but now she needs our help. This affectionate, social, tail wagging, sweet senior lady, who seems to like other dogs and loves people, needs a family to step up for her. She has earned herself a stellar LEVEL 2 on her Behavior Assessment, making her even more of a gem! Can you take her in? If you foster, the rescue that pulls will pay her medical expenses, you add love that lasts a lifetime! MESSAGE OUR PAGE for assistance.

What my friends at ACC say about me:
My history is a mystery and my friends here do not know much about me yet! I have medical needs that staff will address with you when you meet me. I am a sweet, social, older gal, looking for the perfect forever home! I'm ready to learn! I need a patient person who has the time to work on training with me.

ENRICHMENT NOTES

4/10/24:
Bubbles is standing at the front of the kennel whining and pacing. She is easily leashed and taken to the backyard for playgroup. She approaches the gate with slight hackles and a soft tail wag. Her hackles go down and she continues to approach with a soft body. She is taken to a different yard where she relieves herself and sniffs around. On the way out she pulls hard towards the back gate and seeks exit, digging at the gate. She is not easily redirected and handler has to apply light directional pressure to keep her moving. On return to kennel she pulls back hard and is not lured in with toys are treats. She is muscled into the kennel and begins to bark and whine as the handler closes and locks the door.

On Leash Reactivity: At the care center Bubbles has been observed to react to other dogs on leash, hard staring at them, with a tense body and hackles up. 💔 Hyacinth needs a foster. We are truly begging 💔

No one spoke up for Hyacinth and now she's stuck in boarding. 😓

She's a loving girl who escaped death twice, the last time when her owner who was supposed to cherish her REQUESTED she be KILLED because they didn't take care of her. Now again she's discarded and confused. 😥

Hyacinth isn't in boarding because she's unlovable. More heartbreaking is that her foster loved her very much but had a devastating event happen and had to leave the state for a bit. So we need your help desperately to get our girl into the arms of a loving human where she belongs. She has so much affection to give.

Hyacinth tested well with a friendly female dog in the shelter, but we believe due to her past male dogs may be scary for her. Slow intros are always smart and we'll provide all the supplies and guidance needed for that! 🙏

Can you help Hyacinth? Please email us and share. We're desperate to help our girl.

** Placed with a New Hope Partner per ACC **

INTAKE DATE: 5-Apr-2024

She’s lived for 10 years with a family, only to be shoved into a crate with her brother Pablo and abandoned near a tree. How long they sat there, hungry, cold, confused and frightened, we don’t know. We only know these wonderful seniors were then taken to the shelter where Pablo was quickly placed with a rescue, leaving GRISELDA to face the winter of her life alone. It’s completely understandable she is trembling, shut down, whale eyed and tail tucked at the back of her kennel grieving the loss of everything she knew, loved, and took for granted would last forever. Outside of her kennel, she often just pancakes to the floor, shaking. This poor lady. We are worried sick for Griselda. She is not aggressive, she is just heartbroken. During her medical, despite how tense and frightened she was, she allowed the medical staff to easily place a muzzle on her, though she probably wondered why they would torture her like that. She allowed ALL handling with no issue. What Griselda needs, and she needs it IMMEDIATELY, is a calm, quiet, loving and compassionate retirement home with an experienced family who understand what it means to be alone in the world with not a single friend by your side to give you comfort and confidence. Please consider fospicing or adopting this chubby, sweet, frosty faced senior. She has nothing left…..nothing except you. MESSAGE OUR PAGE for assistance.

GRISELDA, ID # 197226, 10 Yrs. Old, 72 lbs., Female
Brooklyn ACC, Large Mixed Breed, Brown / White
Surrender Reason: Stray, 4/5/2024, found abandoned in a crate near a tree
Behavior Assessment Rating: New Hope only
No children (under 13)
Medical Behavior Rating:

I came to the shelter with my brother Pablo, Id 197225 (already placed without me!): https://www.facebook.com/photo/?fbid=829129325915262&set=a.822218603273001

SHELTER MEMO:
Griselda was surrendered to the Care Center as a stray so her past behavior in a home environment is unknown. Griselda has not acclimated well to the shelter environment and has displayed a high level of fearfulness. Despite best efforts to socialize her, she shuts down with most forms of interaction with a trembling body, whale eyes, and a tight tucked tail with a tense body. We recommend that Griselda be placed in an adult-only home (Age 13 and over) through a New Hope Partner that can give her the time to decompress and acclimate at her own pace in conjunction with the use of a certified trainer that uses positive reinforcement-only methods to address any challenges she may present with outside of the Care Centers.

INTAKE NOTES – Date of Intake: 5-Apr-2024
n/a

OWNER SURRENDER NOTES – BASIC INFORMATION:
Griselda is an approximately 10 year old, large mixed breed female dog who, along with her brother, Pablo (Id 197225) was found abandoned in a crate near a tree.

BEHAVIOR NOTES

Summary: Griselda has displayed a high level of fear and shutdown behaviors; including avoiding most forms of interactions. When attempting to conduct a handling assessment, Griselda sits in one spot and pancakes with a tense, shaking body. Out of concern for her stress levels, a handling assessment was not conducted.

PLAYGROUP NOTES – DOG TO DOG SUMMARY:
Summary: Due to Griselda entering the facility as a stray, there is no prior dog-to-dog history recorded.

04/07/24: Griselda is introduced to a novel male dog while off leash at the care center. Griselda doesn't greet the novel male dog, but rather keep her distance from him. When one of the handlers grabs her drag leash in order to get her to greet the novel male dog, her hackles rise and she hard stares at the novel male dog. Griselda is returned to kennel to reduce stress.

FUN FACTS:

INTAKE BEHAVIOR:
Date of intake: 5-Apr-2024
Summary: n/a

MEDICAL BEHAVIOR:
Date of initial: 6-Apr-2024
Summary: Very nervous and tense, whale eye and shaking. Allowed all handling.

ENERGY LEVEL:
We have no history on Griselda so we cannot be certain of her behavior in a home environment. However, as she is an older dog she would still benefit from daily mental and physical activity to keep her engaged and exercised. We recommend long-lasting chews, food puzzles, and hide-and-seek games, in addition to physical exercise, as appropriate positive outlets.

BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION: New Hope Only

Recommendations:
No children (under 13)
Place with a New Hope partner

Recommendations comments:

No Children (under 13): Due to the high level of fearfulness and shutdown behaviors displayed in the Care Centers, we recommend for Griselda to be placed in an adult-only home.

Place with a New Hope Partner: Griselda has not acclimated well to the kennel environment and has allowed only minimal handling since intake. We recommend placement with a New Hope partner who can provide any necessary behavior modification (force-free, positive reinforcement-based) and re-evaluate behavior in a stable home environment before placement into a permanent home.

Potential challenges:
Fearful

Potential challenges comments:
Fearful: Griselda has been highly fearful and shutdown during her stay at the Care Centers. She is avoidant of interaction and will pancake to the floor during socialization attempts. It is important to always go slow and give Griselda the option to walk away from any social interaction. She should never be forced to approach anything that she is uncomfortable with or to submit to petting or handling. It should always be Griselda’s choice to approach a new person or thing. She would do best in an initially calm and quiet home environment and should be given time to acclimate to her new surroundings. Please see hadnout on Decompression Period.

PLACED WITH RESCUE!

Handsome American Bulldogish Waffle had been very fearful at the ACC on his intake. He is a timid boy, who even when he was crouching low, was easily leashed led out of his kennel, and walked very slowly on the streets. He was stoic in his fear, and FLINCHED when treats were tossed to him, even when he looks underweight and could use more feeding. Truly a saddening and pathetic situation for a grand handsome boy, so much so, the ACC decided to give him the surgery he needed for his entropjon. In a few days, Waffle had warmed up he stood in front of his kennel with a soft body, waiting for his turn to go out. He has started wagging his tail to greet his handlers and is happy to go out, his notes till 2/8 were like that. Then on 2/9, they wrote that he was frozen and hard barking, and hard staring at the staff. That’s a one day abrupt change to the opposite, one wonders if they are writing about the same dog, or if they’re making it up! We truly are baffled, dogs don’t change like that in a day, and if they did, something must have happened to them. Dogs are thinking and feeling creatures, sometimes even more than humans. The abrupt and 180 degree change in his behavior is inexplicable for a dog that was fearful and timid, never showed any aggression in his moment of fear, then to be described as how they say he is now. They have Waffle in their crosshairs and he has no one but us to have faith in him. Please help him find his 11th hour miracle.
