Bay State Dogs alum Emma crossed the rainbow bridge this weekend. She was rescued from a hoarding situation and had a great long life with her new family. Our thoughts are with them.💔

*REUNITED* Great news!! "Morgan" was safely trapped this morning by MDM Volunteers!!

After over 2 weeks on the run, Morgan is home! She was trapped at 3 am by MDM members Robin T, Judith W, Tracey P and Jill W. In addition to the Cape MDM team, we have many people to thank for Morgan's return. First and foremost are Morgan's family and friends who tirelessly worked to bring Morgan home by putting up flyers, grilling food, refreshing scent items, and communicating sightings to the MDM team.
We also had several professionals lend a hand including Chatham ACO Diane Byers, Chatham Fire Search and Rescue Mark Heller and his team, and Harwich ACO Jenn Harrington.
Thank you also to the Eastham Dog Owners Association for letting us borrow some large metal missing dog signs that helped us spread the word!
And finally we'd like to thank the public for calling in sightings, helping with flyers, sharing posts and offering words of encouragement to the family. The public's support was a shining light during a very stressful time. It really does take a village and Morgan is safely home because of it.

UPDATE 3-21-23: Morgan is still missing. There have been a number of sightings, but she has been scared off due to well meaning people calling out to her.

If you see her please call the number on the flier as quickly as possible and do not approach or call out to Morgan.

UPDATE 3-16-23: The pup was spotted in the past few days so we know she is still wandering around! Please keep your eyes peeled! Do NOT chase or call out to her (it will scare her away). Call in any sightings to 781-635-9958 or 508-728-4709 immediately.

3-11-23 There have been no sightings of "Morgan" since she went missing. Anyone in the area please check ring cams, under decks, in sheds and garages. Please share. Lets help get Morgan home!

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT:
After 11 years saving local dogs, Kathy and I have made the difficult decision to close Bay State Dogs. When I started this little rescue in 2011 there were very few rescue groups exclusively taking dogs in Massachusetts so that became our mission. Our passion has been saving the seniors and we have successfully placed dogs as old as thirteen.

We are proud of the way we have run our rescue by carefully evaluating the dogs we take in so that they can thrive in their new homes and bring joy to their new families. We allow dog owners who have made the difficult decision to surrender their dog a judgement free process to make it easier for them. Thanks to our generous donors we have also been able to help local dog owners who need some temporary financial assistance, whether it’s food or veterinary care, in order to keep their dog.

We could not do any of this without our support system of veterinary partners, foster homes, animal control officers, donors, and our Facebook community. Thank you to Healthy Paws Veterinary Center and Burlington Animal Clinic for making it possible to give our dogs the veterinary care they need. We have an amazing group of loyal foster homes who cared for our dogs until they found their forever homes. Since we do not have a facility to house our dogs it was the only way we could do what we do. Over the years we have developed a relationship with the amazing officers of Billerica & Tewksbury Animal Control and we thank them for assisting us in evaluating and placing more dogs. As adoption fees do not come close to covering the costs of saving a dog, we thank our donors who have kept us going just when we were in the greatest need. Lastly, we are grateful to our Facebook community who shared posts and helped us along the way.

A final thank you to all our adopters. We are grateful that you opened your homes to our dogs and are giving them a great life. If you need our support in the future please reach out to me or Kathy and we will do what we can to help you.

Kathy asked me to share one of her favorite Dr. Seuss quotes: “Don’t cry because it’s over, smile because it happened.” Although we may shed a few tears because this chapter is over, we are smiling and incredibly proud of the what we all made happen together.

The “spookiest” day of the year is just a few sleeps away! 👻🎃🍬 But we don’t want our pets getting too spooked that night, so be sure to check out these pet safety tips we prepared for you as you get ready for Halloween. Our two biggest takeaways:
🐾 keep the candy bag far out of reach from your nosy dog (high up in a cabinet is best)
🐾 keep your pets in a separate room if you will be continuously opening your door to hand out candy

Today is National Black Dog Day, a day to celebrate beautiful black beauties and to encourage people to learn more about the sad stigma that black dogs (and dark coated dogs) face in shelters around the world. We couldn’t scroll by this big, handsome guy and not share. He needs a special home, which is out there somewhere. Maybe with someone on your friends list? Only way to find out is to share him. 🐾

We are calling out for a miracle. We have this beautiful, gentle, loving giant in our care and we know he needs more then we can give him. He needs a home asap. Like yesterday.

We have brought him to the doggy gym 3x this week. We have been snuggling with him in his bedroom on his very own futon… but he’s not apart of our family or truly integrated into our home. And that’s what he needs.

Obie is looking for a family with no other pets and with no kids (not because he’s not good with kids - just because of how worked up he can sometimes get at the sight of stuff like bicycles!). Obie ideally would love a home in a quiet setting. He would do best with “dane lovers/big dog owners” who understand the breed.

Even though Obie is big - he doesn’t need much (outside of the very specific home.) He likes to walk a few times a day, but mostly wants to cuddle and snuggle and sleep. He’s crate trained and usually quiet unless a pesky bicycle drives by. 🤡

This sweet little pack needs a new family! Their owner loved them very much but sadly lost his home. We have promised we’ll do all we can to keep them together. Please spread the word about them: they are a 12-year-old cat & 12-year-old Pomeranian (who grew up together) plus a 3-year-old dachshund who joined them a couple of years ago.

We recently received a generous donation from adopters (who want to remain anonymous) who hosted a plant sale and donated part of the sales to us, which they matched. Rescue can be hard, but the happy beginnings and the kindness of people like these adopters make it worth it.
