Brutus, board and train follow up at Legacy Village
Board and train Brutus went home a few weeks ago, but that doesn't mean the work is over! Working hard with his family, Brutus has continued to thrive in new situations and under increasing distraction in more difficult situations. Enjoy this video from his most recent follow up session.
Ari is a board and train at our #Columbus training center working on his dog reactivity today at #schillerpark
Finn is a dog we’ve been spending a lot of time working with the last few days. This is an extremely fun and extremely motivated young Portuguese Water Dog. He isn’t here for anything major. Just some fear issues of new people and a lack of ability to communicate with him. Dogs like this are always a blast to have in for training because we can usually take things so much further since we aren’t working on reversing huge behavioral issues.
•
In these clips you will see a session @davidthedogtrainer did with Finn where were proofing some of his obedience commands including.. recalls, sit and down as independent commands, bed stays, door manners, and off leash heeling. It’s so cool to see how far this guy has come.
Heights Canine #Columbus head trainer Tim on a pack walk this morning with board and trains Bear and Macy as well as staff dogs Cade and Greyson.
•
All board and trains get daily walks both with and without other dogs to ensure reliability and focus on handler!
Archie is a former private lesson client at our #Columbus training center. He has been boarding with us for the last 2 weeks while his owners are out of town and have been touching up on his training while he’s here.
•
Archie had a lot of dog aggression and reactivity issues that severely has limited his quality of life. After working with Tim in private lessons and Katie and Tim during his stay with us he has excelled to being able to go to dog friendly stores, busy parks, and socialize in our doggie daycare off muzzle making tons of new friends. This has all been accomplished with our balanced approach to dog training.
•
Check out this clip and picture from his recent trip to pet people with trainer Katie!!
Ziggy is a one on one client at our #heightscaninecolumbus location that had his first private lesson with trainer Tim last week.
•
His name fits the bill as this guy has been zigging and zagging all over he place on a leash since his owner got him.
•
We just received this video update from his owner who is ecstatic that she is no finally able to walk her dog politely and with him completely under control!! Great work!!

Remember Molly the fear aggressive Chihuahua? Man has she come a long way in the last 4 weeks. Here is a quick before and after clip of where she started and a session we were working on today!
•
As you know, we determined that most of Molly’s fear aggression was learned based on restraints and barriers enhancing her responses to things that made her uncomfortable (I.e. the crate door amplifying her aggression in this first video). Because of this, once we implement structure into things to teach her what those restraints meant we saw most of the aggression go away on its own without actually needing to punish most of it.
•
From there we spent a lot of time teaching basic off leash obedience, socializing her, and getting her exposed to new people places and things.
•
Check out this clip of us working her in the same environment as this first video and how happy she looks :)

Radar wrapped up his behavioral modification board and train at our Columbus location a few weeks ago. He has been one of the most challenging dogs we’ve had at heights in a while.
•
Radar is your typical small dog who has lived most of his life with minimal rules, structure, or ability to socialize with his environment in a way that makes him feel safe and secure. Because of this he became highly aggressive towards people and dogs.
•
In order to work through this we had to make sure we rebuilt his views on the world. The majority of this was done trough re socializing him. Radar got daily play with other dogs, handled by many different people, and taken LOTS of different places. In the process of doing this and advocating for him through making sure he realizes we were going to let anyone mess with him he began to trust us and become much more compliant with taking direction.
•
Check out the before and after of Radar!! We couldn’t be more proud of all the progress this little guy made.

Roscoe headed home from his board and train at our columbus training center the other day

One of her biggest things we work through with the dogs is their walking. Especially around distractions
•
Luckily we had plenty of distractions present during his Send home lesson for us to work on passing by!!
Jet is a Belgian Malinois currently enrolled in our advanced off leash obedience program. Jet struggles with dog and human reactivity issues. Through teaching all of his obedience training both on and off leash we are keeping him focused on us and positioning ourselves to communicate with him better in situations where he gets aroused.
Cliff and Maynard come to Heights #Cleveland daycare every week to improve their social skills with other dogs. Cliff can be insecure in new environments with dogs and people and Maynard can get very pushy and has been kicked out of a doggie daycare before. Both dogs are able to safely and comfortably come and play because of the structure and guidance we provide to all dogs that come to our facility!
Whiskey is a Heights #Columbus board and train who is finishing up her obedience training with us. She has one week left in her program and is showing GREAT proficiency in her commands and behavior!
Today we had an in home session with Holly and Maya. Holly just completed her behavioral modification board and train about a week ago and Maya is moving through private lessons currently. These two dogs were getting into pretty serious fights at home with each other that we have been working to mitigate. Trough creating clear rules, expectations, and structure in the house we are beginning to see them get more tuned in with their owners and look to them for guidance. This directly correlated to helping eliminate the fighting as they are beginning to look to their handlers when they are stressed out to resolve conflict before it begins.
Today we had our first in home follow up with Holly who just finished a board and train at our #Cleveland training center. During our session we encountered a few very loud very barky dogs behind electric fences to work on any reactivity issues. As you can see here holly does a fantastic job of composing herself with just one little reminder to keep her attention on her owner. We’re so happy with how well she is doing!!
Heights canine #Columbus board and train Odin heads home tomorrow from his behavioral modification board and train. We’ve been working with this guy a TON the last few days working on his heeling in particular
•
Working heeling drills like auto sits can help tune your dog in with you and keep them hyper focused around heavy distractions while you are working with them.
Whiskey is a board and train at our Heights #columbus facility!! This girl is just about halfway through her board and train program with us and is finishing learning all of her obedience commands. After this stage we will be finishing and proofing these commands around all sorts of different distractions and making sure that it is reliable n the real world!

Today was a huge day for Mr Chuck. Chuck is an Argentinian mastiff that just completed our behavioral modification board and train program. This is a short clip from his send home lesson this morning.
Now this video may not look like much at first but once you know a bit about this big guy you will realize just how huge it is for him. Chuck struggled with some serious human aggression issues. In addition to that he was getting into some pretty nasty fights at home with the other dogs. Due to his size he was not controllable in most situations.
One thing that we find our selves talking about quite a bit is the reason why some of the dogs in our videos are a bit slow or look unenthused to work. Obviously it is our goal to have peppy and motivated dogs but when we are dealing with dogs with serious behavioral issues our first and foremost priority is safety and reliability. They have to be reliable around the distractions and triggers they typically have.
In chucks case, because he has the history of getting overly aroused around the other dogs in the home, asking him to remain focused is VERY difficult and absolutely causes a degree of stress. In addition to that, the root of the issues that these dogs have are due to an imbalance in their relationship with their owners. The send home lesson being the first time the owners are holding the dog accountable and providing leadership can be a shock to these dogs after years of getting their way in most situations.
The good thing is with a little consistency from the owners end, these dogs will fall into the routine VERY quickly and begin thriving with the freedom of having less responsibility and more direction. We are so happy to see the transformation in the relationship between chuck and his owner as we work through his follow up support with them :)

Holly the GSD headed home from her behavioral modification board and train this afternoon. This is a short clip from that send home lesson of her learning to walk with the other dog in the house hold Maya. Both dogs were struggling with getting into fights in the house. In order to make sure both dogs were on the same page, while holly was going through her board and train, Maya has been doing private lessons. Fighting dogs are a TON of work but with some consistency they can get back on track and live happy lives together!
Holly heads home TOMORROW from her behavioral modification board and train. When holly first arrived she struggled big time with insecurity issues and issues with other dogs. She was even fighting with the other dog in her house. Most of these issues were due to her not knowing how to handle stress and her anxiety. Now that we are wrapping up her training we have her in a much better state of mind where she is focused and far more confident!! Because of this we have seen most of her behavioral issues melt away and the rest we are in a position to communicate clearly what our expectations of her are!
