We arrived in Puglia (Southern Italy) with two english cats, Bill and Ben, in December 2005. In October 2007 a little italian female cat, living wild, started to hang around the garden. Eventually she took up residence on the verandah and gradually inviegled her way into the house. She opened the flood gates and now we are running a cat sanctuary. A lot of the cats merely visit our garden for food
and when they need it medical care. Others are garden cats who live in the garden, they have sheltered places where they can sleep and avoid any bad weather. A handful are house-cats and, in the evenings, come into the house with us. As you can imagine, with so many cats to care for, our cat food and vets bills are very high. We are grateful to Gerry and Angela who supply us with high quality dry cat food at reasonable prices, and to our vet Filippo Carlino, http://www.pugliapooches.eu/puglia-vet.html, who helps us take care of the cats. Also our thanks to Liz, who has made her gardens available in the next Contrada, to the strays, abandoned and wild cats there. Liz also helps us with the cost of caring for them. Many of the Casa Mare cats feature in the, as yet unpublished book, being written by our friend, Vivia.
