Folks asked, how did you get a cat to agree to have a splint applied? While Vincenzo is an exceptionally agreeable cat, he did appreciate our fear free method of having some Churo while Dr. Miller bandaged his leg. As an update for those following Vincenzo's case, see the comments below for the comparison xrays, showing how metacarpal 3 and 5 have remodeled and how metacarpal 4 has a good callous formation. So when your cat is constipated it can be very uncomfortable for them and they may need medical assistance, such as an enema, to help. Your pet will stay with us for a few hours to be monitored during this procedure. In this kitty’s case, the enema worked but resulted in some messy diarrhea. This sweet boy allowed the staff to give him a bath and even blow dry him after. He feels much better!!

Heartworms are REAL! Every three years, the American Heartworm Society gathers data on heartworm testing to understand the impact heartworm is having nationwide. Remember monthly heartworm prevention is crucial! For more information visit www.heartwormsociety.org

Can you spot the microfilaria in the blood sample? This is a microscopic view of the microfilaria ( immature larval stage of heartworms) swimming on a blood smear. Remember, heartworm is only transmitted by mosquitoes carrying the microfilaria. It only takes 1 infected mosquito to transmit heartworm disease. Make sure your pet is on a monthly preventative all year-round.
