Bugsy from our brain and body movement class doing back foot targeting on a platform. We teach front and back foot target on various obstacles so puppies and dogs will confidently learn to move across different surfaces and obstacles from plastic tarps to raised platform, through boxes etc . This translates into a dog who is more confident in real life.
We are opening registration for a puppy brains and body movement class now. 6x 1 hour classes.

Attention puppy owners do not miss this cool enrichment class. This is an awesome class to do along with puppy class for socialization and confidence building.
Our first brain and movement games class is having such a great time and we are seeing such wonderful results that I am launching a second class for puppies.
This is a tricks, puzzle, obstacle course and movement class .
It is really useful for dogs of all ages but especially puppies who need socialization to new things and dogs who are excited or fearful.
It is great to teach those growing puppy brains new skills, tricks and problem solving abilities. That translates into a more confident dog! Plus busy brain and body means a more tired puppy. Who does not want that?
It is zoom due to supplies needed in home. We use regular household supplies ie. Boxes, baskets, broom sticks etc.
This is a small class with personalized coaching and very easy because you use supplies that are in your home already.
I have the possibility of 7pm Sundays or 8pm Mondays starting April 14th. 6x 1 hour classes. Please connect right away by email to register as space is limited .

This is Bugsy doing a super job at one of the class games in his week 2 class. The puzzle gets harder with more obstacles and challenges as his confidence and abilities grow.
Bugsy is taking the class because he has anxiety and he shuts down in a regular group class setting. This is what his mom Lisa wrote about Bugsy taking the class.
"I have a very anxious dog, so anxious, in fact that he needs to be on antidepressants to help reduce his anxiety. After years of trying different courses and having absolutely no luck in bringing Bugsy to a class directly, I just trained him at home.
When Shelley offered me the opportunity to do this class via Zoom, I leapt at the chance .
From the moment we started this class Bugsy was so excited and was catching on so quickly. It has allowed me to expose him
More fun tricks from our pet therapy 2 teams who partnered with the amazing youth and staff at Youth Impact Jeunesse Inc. to teach their dogs tricks. This is Gazelle and her dad demonstrating up on the basket. This does require a dog to be brave and put their paws up on an unusual object.

More fun tricks from our pet therapy 2 teams who partnered with the amazing youth and staff at Youth Impact Jeunesse Inc. to teach their dogs tricks. This is Polly the Poodle demonstrating through the Hulu hoop. A hula hoop is new and different and weird for most dogs so it takes some confidence building to get dogs to do tricks with a hoop in the beginning.

Doggone friends....Please share and applaud the accomplishments of our pet therapy 2 visiting students and their totally awesome dedicated youth partners and staff from Youth Impact Jeunesse Inc. For the last 6 weeks...youth have partnered up with our therapy dog teams in training to teach the dogs some super cool tricks. It is a win-win program as the dogs learn some wonderful new tricks they can use while they are visiting and working. Youth get to share the doggy love, have fun and learn some new skills along the way.
These are some of the tricks our teams have been working on. This is Ollie the doodle demonstrating bowling with his Mom.
Note the trick where the owner is flashing the sign for sit, down or spin is actually the dog "reading ". The dog learns that the written word on the page is a cue to do that behaviour.
If you would like to do therapy work with your dog...we accept dogs who are friendly with people and other dogs into our training program. Please message directly for more details. Our next therapy preparation class starts Wednesday April 17th.
Brain and movement games for your dog's healthy mind and body.
Super class for any dog and owner wanting fun brain and body games but very helpful for excited, fearful, anxious or reactive dogs.
Also great for:
Therapy dogs and owners who want to have fun with their dogs.
Senior dogs to stimulate their minds and bodies in a gentle fun way .
Puppies to build positive enriching experiences and problem solving.
Each class involves challenging your dog's brain and body by adding in new tricks, movements, exercises and puzzles.
We use simple easy household set ups. Train at home. Not a lot of space needed. The average living room, rec room, sun room, kitchen or even wide hallway will work fine.
Why puzzles and games? New movements, tricks, games and positive experiences build new neural pathways in the brain. These new positive experiences can help your dog become happier, more confident, calmer, less frustrated, less anxious , less fearful, less reactive and better able to cope with the world around them including noises, new sounds, surfaces and textures, small spaces and new things popping on the scene ie. dogs, bikes, joggers and people.
The games and exercises teach your dog interacting with new situations and objects leads to good things. They learn overcoming challenges is possible and even desirable.
When your dog is having fun....this releases happy hormones and builds confidence.
When your dog is in control of an exercise and leading the learning in the game, this gives your dog a sense of control and decreases anxiety. Just like with people...when you are in control of your own destiny...you feel happier and less frustrated.
Also for dogs who are reactive, fearful, anxious ...their bodies are overwhelmed and disregulated. So by playing games where you teach the dog coping skills, you can help your dog co-regulate with you. Then eventually your dog can learn to self regulate. Meaning they can check out new things in their environment and
Hi Doggone families still time to enroll in doggy soccer. I have room for a few more dogs.
Treibball is part doggy soccer, part herding . It is good exercise for your dog's brain and body, builds obedience and teamwork and is a whole lot of fun!
Your dog has to learn self control around the ball, how to go out away from owner , drop on command at a distance, turn left and right, push and herd the ball back to you in net and more!
6x 1 hour sessions
This is going to be a 2 part class. Introduction classes 1 and 2 Monday Oct 16th and 23rd, 30th rain date back up 6pm at the park. Then classes 3 to 6 at Coverdale Rec centre resuming Tuesday Jan 9th 2024.
Why the gap in time...some skills take awhile to build so we do some work. Then you go home do homework and come back to be able to have a lot more Doggone soccer fun with your dog.

This is Melanie with Milou, one of our former Treibball teams, with Milou learning to go around a cone left and right to prepare to go out and get his ball. Then Milou at park learning to push ball . Then we can put skills together as learning progresses and Milou goes out and pushes ball back to his owner. This was late fall class so getting dark!
Unfortunately this post did not share Melanie's comments about how much Milou enjoyed class. But feel free to look at the pinned post above from July 2022 under the videos for her comments.
