Fancy Peppermint Lysmata jundalini shrimp feeding on Aiptasia and pellets available from Biota today - https://shop.thebiotagroup.com/products/peppermint-shrim

Bocas Mariculture founder Till Deuss spoke with journalist Matthew Pedersen about his recent success breeding this new peppermint shrimp species -

"First, there are its unique, pleasing aesthetics. 'The species is quite a bit more attractive than other species of peppermint shrimps, having golden legs, a conspicuous blue spot on the coxa between the pereiopods, and blue shimmer on the antennular flagellums.'

These small shrimps will be sought out for their pest-control abilities. Says Deuss, 'I have kept and cultured several other species of peppermint shrimps in the past, and in my experience L. jundalini seems to be particularly efficient in controlling problematic Aiptasia anemones.'"

📷 adorable baby captive bred Genicanthus melanospilos Swallowtail Angelfish. This is one of the few completely reef safe angelfish for your reef tank. Unlike other angelfish, this genus is planktivorous and will eat small pellets and frozen foods in your tank, and there is absolutely no risk they will nibble your coral or clams.

Both males and females are stunningly beautiful, but this species goes through a fascinating color change when a female transitions to a male. All specimens are born female, but as they age, the most dominant in a group will turn into a male with vertical striping. Single fish typically transition into males over time, and the color change is amazing to observe over time.

Gramma dejongi var - If you thought the natural color form of the Golden Cuban Basslet was rare, this fish is rare squared. The platinum white color form of the Golden Cuban Basslet spontaneously appeared in our captive bred population and has become the pinnacle of rare basslets.

But what makes the species so rare to begin with? What does this beautiful fish have in common with Cuban ci**rs? Because of the Cuban trade embargo, wild collected Gramma dejongi aren't sold within the US, but there is a loophole - captive bred offspring are certainly legal. Only recently discovered in 2010, this species is similar in behavior to its close cousin, the undisputedly awesome reef tank fish, the Royal Gramma Basslet. Incredibly hardy, easy to keep, outgoing, and a veritably peaceful, reef safe citizen that can fit in nearly any size aquarium, the Gramma dejongi is as close to perfection as an aquarium fish can be.

Distinguished marine biologist and ornamental fish breeder Todd Gardner and his team produce these in the Biota North Carolina lab. This species produces a small number of offspring, so they are still quite rare despite being captive bred. If you are looking for a stunning show fish with the confidence and low risk of a hardy, robust species, The Golden Cuban Basslet is for you.

A parachutist jumps with more than 100 million seeds in the Amazon.

The paratrooper, Luigi Cani, brought 100 million seeds to a remote deforested area of the Amazon region.

They were transported in a biodegradable wooden box of more than 1m³ and 300 kg. Luigi dived at 300 km/h. He also held the world record for the shortest parachute jump on the planet in 2020.

The seeds collected for the project have a germination rate of over 95% and do not require any human intervention to germinate.

Biota captive bred Blue Tangs (Paracanthurus hepatus) are back in stock!

Are you looking for Dory, but don't want to take fish from the wild? Biota is now offering 100% captive bred Biota Blue Tang.

Blue is an exceptionally rare color in nature, and few animals sport the deep, velvety blue color that the Blue Tang does. A contrasting black "art pallet" pattern and yellow tail gives the fish even more visual interest. This fish is not only beautiful, but is also known for having a lot of personality.

Doryrhamphus excisus - Pipefish are close relatives of the seahorse. Bluestripe pipefish are among the most beautiful syngnathids with their bright blue and orange coloration. They are one of the "flagtail" pipefish and have relatively large, colorful caudal fins used for sailing around the tank in the current.

Wild caught pipefish are extremely difficult to keep because they typically only eat live foods. These captive bred pipefish from David Sowash at Reef Life Creations are raised on prepared foods like frozen baby brine, chopped mysis, and PE Calanus, making them easier to keep. They're quite hardy when provided with the proper environment and care. Pipefish should be fed 3 - 4 x a day.

Compatibility

Seahorse specific tanks are perfect environments for small pipefish. Unlike seahorses, Bluestripe pipefish may also be suitable in a reef-style tank with proper tank mates.

This pipefish species is small, and adults typically grow to 2" or 3" max. At sale size, young pipefish are about the size of a toothpick. Aggressive fish or fish large enough to eat small pipefish are not suitable tankmates. Beware larger crabs and hermit crabs or any animals that could pinch or harm them physically. Stinging anemones and any stinging corals like Euphyllia are risky tank mates for pipefish. Corals with large mouths can consume pipefish. Many Doryrhamphus species are known to be active cleaners in the wild, picking tiny parasitic crustaceans from other fishes.
