I'm sitting here waiting to hear if a 17 week old cavoodle puppy will be surrendered to us - or be euthanised by his family.

He has a condition called atlantoaxial subluxation - it is movement between two discs in the neck that move. It is extremely painful, and life threatening.

IF the owners surrender to us - we will need to do a CT scan and an MRI (tomorrow possibly) the cost I would think would be around $6000-$8000.

Then the surgery. Which I have no idea but probably the same again. :(

We have Amelia's surgery coming up in 3 weeks and this is going to be a huge burden. We have other dogs in RWL who also need work.

But I wanted to see how you felt about us taking him on.

I know we are one of the few rescues who can manage this financially because of you.

But this month is going to be scraping every cent from the bottom of the handbag.

I will let you know what the owners decide.

He is a little boy.

With tears we write our latest update about Lionel. He crossed to the rainbow bridge this evening 🌈

Lionel was a couple of months shy of his 12th birthday. He came to MBRC 1 year ago (almost to the day) and was the sweetest old man. Lionel had some skin issues, battled to walk, but had a heart of gold and deserved to be loved and cared for after being dumped at a Melbourne pound.

Lionel lived with Barbara for the past 9 months as a forever foster. We are eternally grateful for the love and care Barbara showed Lionel. We know Lionel's life was full, he was so so happy 💞

Thank you to our regular weekly and monthly donators, providing the ongoing vet care for Lionel and other bulldogs who remain in MBRC care wouldn't be possible without your generosity.
