Hello everyone! I just wanted to announce that we will be changing the platform in which our knowledge base will be held and will be switching from Zoho to Google Classroom. Since all of you have already paid for the forum, you will get access to the classroom automatically. We are switching so that we can consolidate our resources, and the classroom makes it much easier to organize the resources by sections. You will be receiving an email to join the classroom, so please keep an eye out for that!!! If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to either Billie or myself. Thank you, and have a wonderful Valentine’s Day!!

When I think about love, I think about the way the sunshine feels on your skin and how it warms you up from the inside out, changes your perspective on the day, motivates you to get outside, and can completely change your mood just by being there. Luckily for dog owners, we have an endless supply of sunshine even in the darkest of times as long as our dogs are by our side 💜🐩 Happy Valentine's Day from everyone here at Koda’s Canine Academy!! 🐩💜

Dogs and kids can make great friends, but it's important to take steps to help them get along safely and happily. Here are a few tips:

1. Start early. The sooner you introduce your dog to kids, the better. This will help them get used to each other and learn how to interact positively.
2. Supervise interactions. Always supervise your dog and kids when they're together, especially when they're first getting to know each other. This will help prevent any problems from happening.
3. Teach your dog basic commands. Your dog should know basic commands like "sit," "stay," and "come." This will help you control your dog if necessary.
4. Teach your kids how to interact with dogs. Kids need to learn how to behave around dogs. Teach them not to tease, pull, or hit dogs. They should also learn to ask before petting a dog and to always let the dog sniff them first.
5. Provide plenty of positive reinforcement. When your dog and kids interact positively, be sure to praise them both. This will help them learn that good behavior is rewarded.
6. Be patient. It takes time for dogs and kids to build a relationship. Don't get discouraged if they don't hit it off right away. Just keep working on it and they'll eventually become friends.

If you are having issues with the interactions between your dog and your kids, reach out today and we will be more than happy to help you!

As my dogs have gotten older one thing I hear a lot is how amazing their coats still look and feel, and I get asked a lot about what supplements I use. Truth is, I don't really use very many supplements at all, I just make sure that I feed them the highest quality food possible.. aka.. human quality food. Luckily, if you don't have the time to make it yourself, JustFoodForDogs has you covered. https://www.dpbolvw.net/click-101315855-15830417

👉Teaching Touch👈
Why teach a cue like touch? Believe it or not, dogs like to be people pleasers. Although they may not always want to respond to a cue like "here" or "place", dogs do enjoy being rewarded for their efforts. For example, if we have a dog who is reluctant to "place" on a scale at the vet office we can ask them to "touch" our hand that just so happens to be hovering over the scale. We've taken away the aspect of sitting on a possibly scary or unappealing object and replaced it by allowing them to meet the simple expectation of touching their owners hand with their nose. We can then reward our dog for their effort and everyone gets what they needed without fuss. Learn how to teach touch or other cues for your dog training tool belt with

The Anatolian Shepherd Dog, a large and powerful breed originating from Turkey, is known for its loyalty, protectiveness, and intelligence. They were originally bred to protect livestock and are still used as working dogs today. Though generally healthy, they are prone to hip and elbow dysplasia and require regular grooming due to their thick coat. With a lifespan of 10-12 years, they need lots of exercise, mental stimulation, and early socialization. They are best suited for homes with large yards and require patient, consistent training due to their independent nature.

Koda’s Comeback has officially expanded to Georgia, starting with Fraternity of the 4 Paws Inc . This foster-based rescue is dedicated to finding loving, permanent homes for dogs in need, and they rely on community support to make that possible. I will be working with the dogs currently in Kelley’s care—those who have not yet been placed in foster homes or adopted. Kelley has devoted her life to rescuing and rehoming dogs, providing them with temporary care while searching for their forever families.

The first dog I’ll be working with is Otto, a Great Pyrenees mix who was found as a puppy playing in traffic on a busy highway in March 2024. Now about a year and a half old, Otto is full of energy but unaware of his size. He is a big, playful puppy who simply hasn’t had the opportunity to learn proper boundaries. My focus will be on teaching him basic obedience and impulse control to help him become the well-mannered companion I know he can be. Otto is a sweet, affectionate dog, and I’m excited to share his progress. Please like and share this post to help Otto find the loving forever home he deserves!

When it comes to dog training, one of the very best things you can focus on with them is exposure to new things early on. The more things we are able to expose them to early, and in a positive way, the more likely they are to be confident and responsive in new environments, and the less likely they are to develop fear, anxiety, or reactivity. We always need to keep in mind that our dogs exposure to the outside world is our job, and if we don’t take the time to introduce them to it, everything they encounter is going to be more exciting or scary later in life.

The good news is, Koda’s Canine Academy can help you with this! Whether you have been wanting to take your dog to the store with you, out to lunch to sit on the patio, or to the grooming salon without them freaking out, we can schedule exposure specific training sessions to help you work them through all those potential fears and anxieties. We will help you learn how to read and respond to your dog’s needs and build their confidence in you as their handler, while simultaneously showing them that there is nothing to be afraid of!

So, if you have been wanting to get your dog out more and aren’t sure where to start, reach out to us today to set up your consultation!!

Dogs are amazing creatures, but they can also be a lot of work. One of the most important things to remember when training a dog is to take things slow. Here are a few reasons why:

1. Dogs need time to learn. Dogs don't understand human language, so they need time to learn what you want them to do. If you try to teach them too much too quickly, they'll get overwhelmed and frustrated.
2. Dogs need to build trust. Dogs are pack animals, and they need to feel safe and secure with their owners. If you try to force them to do something they don't want to do, they'll lose trust in you.
3. Dogs need to have fun. Training should be enjoyable for both you and your dog. If you're not having fun, your dog won't be either. So take your time, make it fun, and your dog will learn much better.

Here are a few tips for taking things slow with your dog:

1. Start with basic commands. Don't try to teach your dog complex tricks right away. Start with simple commands like "sit," "stay," and "come."
2. Use positive reinforcement. Dogs learn best when they're rewarded for good behavior. So when your dog does something you like, give them a treat or some praise.
3. Be patient. It takes time for dogs to learn. Don't get discouraged if your dog doesn't understand something right away. Just keep practicing and eventually, they'll get it.

Taking things slow with your dog is the best way to build a strong and lasting relationship. So be patient, have fun, and enjoy the journey!

➡Teaching Heel⬅
When teaching heel it is important to focus on using communication and body language rather than a tool such as a leash. This way you not only avoid leash corrections but you are also working to build a strong handler-dog relationship. For more information regarding heel, check out our YouTube videos or reach out to us on our website www.kodask9academy.com

Good morning!
We wanted to share an update on Axel’s new family life. Axel was adopted from the Somerset Humane Society in September of 2024. He has definitely settled into his new home and thoroughly enjoys having a brother (Remi) to play with. His days are now filled with play sessions, toys, naps and snuggles with his family. He loves to ride and go on adventures. He plays really well with new dogs that he meets along the way. Axel is a major cuddle bug and loves everyone he meets. We have been working on giving his houseguests personal space rather than snuggling into their lap for loves. He is doing an excellent job with these new boundaries and is learning to wait for an invitation to cuddle. Axel and Remi are patiently waiting for the arrival of their first human baby brother "Baby Lawrence" this month.

The American Water Spaniel is a friendly, intelligent breed with a thick, water-resistant coat that is typically dark brown or black with white markings. They weigh 25-45 pounds, stand 15-18 inches tall, and live 10-12 years. Prone to hip/elbow dysplasia and ear infections, this breed requires moderate grooming and training and does well with children and other dogs. They are high-energy and need moderate exercise; thus, they are not suited to apartment life. This breed is best suited for active families who enjoy the outdoors.
