TODAY'S STARTER FOR 7
For the first time since 2019 we now finally enjoying the company of a litter of First Cross (F1) Border Collie x Golden Retreiver puppies.
In 2014 we were asked by a diabetes charity if we would provide them with Border Collie x Golden Retriever first crosses to be trained as diabetic assistance dogs.
We don’t let our pups go to third parties (including) charities but as this cross was so highly regarded for producing exceptionally easy, affectionate, willing and very bright dogs we decided to breed a litter as companions and see why charities were so eager to train them as assistance dogs.
The F1s were a huge success, their loving natures, gentleness and quickness to learn made them an annual feature of our breeding programme with us breeding one litter a year from 2015 onwards.
Sadly the global pandemic meant that we have bred very few puppies since it the horrors of Covid were unleashed on an unsuspecting world and no F1s have been bred at all.
Now with the pandemic behind us and with hope for the new year Rufus and Ursa have presented us with 7 little souls who are keeping us very busy and very entertained.
A question for all those interested in the genetics of colour…
All the pups are Black and White although Ursa is a GOLDEN Retriever and Rufus a red border collie - Why must all the puppies be black and white?
