The very handsome Otis enjoying his birthday 🥳
The Picardy Spaniel is such a wonderful breed: gentle, loyal, intelligent and so much more.
With the hot weather building in the UK and similar heat waves across Europe, remember the following dog+heat rules:
☀️ Walks should be done in the early morning or late evening when it is cooler.
☀️ Check the temperature of the tarmac/pavements with your hands/feet before you venture out with your canine- burnt pads are agony!
☀️ DON’T leave dogs in cars. AT ALL.
☀️ Always have fresh, cool water available and easily accessible.
☀️ Be mindful of children around dogs in hot weather. Fuses are often shorter for both parties and even the nicest dogs, when hot, can be more prone to snappiness.
☀️ If you have access to fans or air-con systems use them. Ida lies in front of a fan all day when it’s hot.
No matter what, ensuring that your dog has a solid foundation in the basic training commands is absolutely invaluable. Walking in the fields and knowing that Ida likes to be at a distance it’s important to keep her responses sharp. Here you can see Ida at moderate distance doing a stop and recall; she has always been a joy to train.
