Bear was born 20 years ago, he made an incredible impact on my life, but also on everyone who met him. His legacy lives on through every dog matched with a Veteran at Pets for Vets. Every year on Bear’s birthday I like to revisit this list, to remind myself to be the person Bear inspired me to be. Just in time to ring in the New Year. Happy Heaven Birthday Bear and Happy New Year.

I found Dozer in Southern California shelter. He was such a special little dog who immediately connected with Steven and Steven fell in love with Dozer right back.

We are celebrating our 15th year and anniversary on October 20th. This article shares a portion of the eureka moment that led me to create Pets for Vets with Bear. It’s hard to believe it’s been 15 years. I am proud of what we have accomplished but even more excited for what we will continue to do for veteran and animal communities!

Congratulations to Army officer, data scientist, and now Miss USA, 2nd Lt. Cooper!

Congratulations to 2nd Lt. Alma Cooper, USMA Class of 2023, on being crowned Miss USA! Cooper, the first active-duty soldier to receive this title, attributes her dedication to character, both in and out of uniform, to her years at West Point.

"I think the biggest thing I learned at West Point is your character and how fundamental it is and how you lead and how you carry yourself throughout your life. Whether I'm in a uniform or I'm outside of a uniform, wearing this crown as Miss USA... to me service, and your heart and your character truly lead me in every aspiration and pursuit I take on."

We wish her all the best as she competes for the title of Miss Universe next!
