Most of us, including Piper, enjoy the opportunity to lounge near the pool during the summer. Just keep in mind as temperatures get hot that it is quite easy for our dogs to burn their paw pads, develop heat exhaustion, or even heat stroke. Make sure to be careful about how long they're out when temperatures are high.

Penny and Bentley show off their best National Geographic poses here. It's pretty common for puppy owners to get concerned when they see their cuddly little pup making a face like this. But, the truth is, this is pretty standard for early puppy play and, generally, nothing to be worried about. The trick is to make sure that we give them plenty of guidance and plenty of opportunities with other dogs so they have the chance to learn to stick to the kind of faces that we (and other adult dogs) tend to prefer during play.

(sound on) Tis the season. If you haven't already, now is a good time to consider starting to desensitize your dog to loud, unexpected noises like fireworks and thunderstorms. This MUST be done gradually, though. Positive stress is good. Tolerable and toxic stress are less so. Also, introducing Night, our new rescue. He's a (n unbelievably sweet) nervous boy but is continuing to get more confident step by step. For the eagle-eyed among you, 32 seconds in was when he noticed mom in the window. #beyondobediencedogtraining #fireworks #rescuedog
