Working through resource guarding
Working through resource guarding

Rose was almost 10 weeks of age resource guarding to the point of breaking skin.. This is part of her progression over the last 7 weeks. In these videos we were working strictly on touching her and handling her chews. Resource guarding is responsible for dog bites and maulings that usually end up with a dog being euthanized or dumped on the streets. Do not wait until they are bigger to address behaviors like this. The older they become the more habitual it becomes. Old habits die hard.

Behavior modification and obedience training depends on developing a healthy bond, clear communication and consistency. When you develop a bond you you're building trust, respect and confidence. You start to figure out what motivates or discourages the dog. You figure out what their strengths and weaknesses are. To me that is the magic of dog training. It's not about telling a dog what to do.
