This morning we are introducing Archie to the barn paddock. All was going well until we turned out Sonny, Sonny is now in "Timeout"! He needs to rethink his attitude and not chase the new boy around the paddock!
Chant just can't handle a new kid in the paddock. Chant will spend the next week in and out of "Timeout"! Alex will be in his stall at night until they all get settled in with a new boy in the paddock. It actually went very well for the first day! Excluding the 4-legged guard horse, Chant! All horses are back in their proper places now. We have a storm rolling in!
Took Boo back to the boy's paddock to meet Alex. After a scream, all is going well. They are getting along great. Alex was nipped at by Chunky to make him move. Alex did not take kindly to that nip and swung around to kick at Chunky. Chunky is the boss of the paddock! Off to the races for Alex to learn a fast lesson of correction. I did not get that recorded. Alex is now aware that when Chunky says "move", don't question him!
I added Boo to the paddock with Chant to meet Alex. Boo could have cared less about Alex. Boo only wanted to explore the new paddock that he has never seen before. So..... I changed things up. Alex was pacing and wanting his buddies from the barn. I took Alex to the boy's paddock to meet the gentlemen there. Chunky, Titan and Cash are always welcoming of the new kid. No drama, no nasty introductions, always welcoming. Alex has stopped pacing the fence and screaming. The boy's are eating together! I'll add Chant and Boo into the mix later today.
Introductions are always dramatic when Chant is involved! Alex will be moving to the boy's paddock soon. Slow introductions work best for the new kids on the block. Alex is pretty laid back. Should be a great move for him.
Such a beautiful day to sit and chat with everyone and watch the puppies play. Gracie is so gentle with little tiny terror, Annie! They are great friends!
Britney and Pippi had their first run yesterday. Pippi was site seeing on the first barrel. Today her run has improved so much! Her time is something to celebrate! Pippi still finds something to glance at going around the first barrel! She's still very young! Thank you, Garrett for keeping us all informed. We are so proud of them all.
Pippi did her qualifying run yesterday. This sweet young mare is really showing how much she has learned. She's getting in the competitive range!!!! They will be collecting checks in the very near future!!! Go Girls!!!!!
Pippi did her 2 Exhibition runs back to back. Always improving. Got to give these 2 a lot of credit. They are really doing great in competition. Both are still very young. So proud of them!
Levi did his first Exhibition/Warmup/training run this morning. He wasn't very sure, but handled it all with the absolute best attitude. This team is going to be great!!!!
Levi goes to his first Barrel Race. He has Pippi there as an anchor. This is in the warmup pen. He can't stop screaming! What a baby. Pippi is within your sight.
Okay, we have a gal that needs a Barrel Horse and a horse that really needs a job. Levi thought he was retired!! He's been relaxing for over a year. You can hear him voice his opinion and missing his buddy who's not too far away. You're not a weanling, Levi. Off to the races for you both! Could be a really great team!
Barn babies/seniors finally got to go out to play today. You could see how excited they were and confused with the depth of the snow. It's already starting to melt!
Ace has no sense of humor with how deep the snow is! Size matters!!!! He has been in a stall through the storm. He will be back in the barn tonight. He will also have lots of exercise today!
Someone got a new baby!!! The ranch family are all falling in love with this little tiny terror! Gracie is not sure what to think! She's 9 weeks old and afraid of NOTHING!
The Geldings sat and watched the mares play for a while, then decided it was their turn. Everybody got in on the action except Goose, Junior and Levi. They sat in the shed and watched.
It was 40 and beautiful this morning when I fed. Calm, quiet and warm! Leave it to Colorado! By the time I was done feeding, the snow was starting. The temperature was dropping. The horses are happy!!! The mare paddock.
I just have to brag about this team!!! Very new together in competition. Both very young. This is the first race that they pulled a check!!!! Pippi might start supporting herself in the future! The ranch family is so excited and supportive of this team!
Alex got turned out with the barn ponies for breakfast this morning. He met Toad and Elle in the paddock last night. His brother Sonny hasn't been with him for a while, and just snubbed him!!! Ranger attempted to be tough, but Alex looked at him as if Ranger is an old fool!!! So far they are all doing very well.
Last night Alex got to meet a couple of his paddock mates. Elle protects Toad like he is her baby! All went very well with the first meeting.
