🌟 Meet Nyx Estelle — The Starry-Eyed Sweetheart with Legs for Days 🌙

Nyx Estelle (or as her friends call her, Nikki) is an 8-month-old (guessing shepherd) mixed-breed gal with runway-ready legs, a featherlight frame (just 30 lbs!), and enough love in her heart to power a small city. Her name is as magical as she is—Nyx, meaning “goddess of the night,” and Estelle, meaning “star.” And she’s living up to both: a resilient little star who bounced back after being dumped on a rural Louisiana road, and now shines brighter than ever.

Nikki is a sweet, smart, and endlessly charming pup who’s ready for her forever home. She’s treat-motivated, eager to learn, and totally into pleasing her people. She already knows “sit,” is kennel trained, and is working on loose leash walking like a proper lady. She’s almost perfectly potty trained—she’ll even let you know when she needs to go!

Her favorite things?
• Bouncy balls (prepare to be her fetch assistant)
• Puzzle toys (she will outsmart them)
• Walks and playtime (especially with a dog buddy!)
• Training sessions (she’s a teacher’s pet, and she knows it)

She plays great with other dogs—especially smaller ones—and while bigger dogs can be a little intimidating, Nikki’s all wiggles and zero drama. She’s curious about cats (some barky commentary may occur) but never chases them. She’s super friendly and easygoing, but due to her baby energy and occasional jumpy excitement, a home without small kids would be ideal while she continues polishing her manners.

Her dream home? A fenced-in yard to run wild in, a playful vibe, and humans who are just as down for snuggles as they are for fun. A doggy sibling would be awesome, but she’s also happy soaking up all your love solo.

We have a very little, very sassy, very playful little lady who joined SWUAR this past week!

Kathy’s journey began under heartbreaking circumstances. A rescuer received a call from someone they’d helped before—his dog was in distress during labor, and he feared she had a puppy stuck. He was right.

The mother had delivered a large litter, but the toll on her body was devastating. One puppy was stillborn, and tragically, three others were lost shortly after birth. Of the four that survived, one was especially small and weak. Despite being placed with a surrogate mom for extra care, he sadly didn’t make it.

The mother dog was suffering from mammary cancer and severe mastitis, and she was unable—and unwilling—to care for her babies. After undergoing a C-section, the owner tried to take the remaining three puppies home. Sadly, the mother fatally injured one more before help could arrive.

That’s when the rescuer stepped in and took the last two surviving puppies to safety, at only TWO DAYS OLD! Kathy’s sister passed away shortly after, but Kathy—tiny, determined, and full of fight—kept going.

Today, Kathy is thriving. She’s got a healthy appetite, is starting to transition to puppy food, and still enjoys her bottle. Her resilience is nothing short of incredible, and she’s finally getting the love and care every puppy deserves.

Her orginal rescuer has her hands full with other puppies and dogs, so to help lighten the load, with backing of Safe With Us Animal Rescue, Kathy has taken temporary residence at our Louisiana Coordinator’s home who is fostering until she is ready to head north.

It’s back!! The last time we did a scratch ticket fundraiser we raised over $1500, and this time we would love to meet that again or beat it because this fundraiser is not just for fun, it’s bigger than that.

To be honest, the reason we decided to do this wasn’t just to raise much needed funds. We were asked by a long-time donor’s family who sadly passed away, to do a fundraiser in their honor. They donated $300 and asked us to purchase that value in scratch tickets and raffle them off- what a kind gesture!

Since we opened, we have done various raffles, including silent online auctions, a winner takes all raffle of various libations and scratch tickets, Patriot’s tickets, etc. This donor donated every single time- didn’t matter what type of fundraising raffle it was- they donated. They just loved the chance to win, but more so, loved where the money went. They never won, but they didn’t care! They just wanted us to raise as much as we could to support or foster pals and future pals in need.

They knew how much rescuing meant to their loved one, and felt this was a fun way to honor them and also continue their passion.

Honestly, this fundraiser is much needed for the rescue. We have a lot of vetting going on for our forever foster pals and mouths to feed. We need to continue our mission, but it’s very hard with the economy today, and donations at an all time low.

Starting today, and until July 9th, let’s raise some money for the rescue! Our goal is $1500 and we need all the help we can get to reach that goal- maybe even surpass it (which would be PAWSOME!!!).

Each raffle entry is $10. You can purchase as many as you want!

❤️🐾 Frederick 🐾❤️

Meet Frederick!!! This little guy is approximately 10 weeks old. He is a lab/pit bull mix and came to us after being trapped in a storm drain with her siblings. Unfortunately Mom and Dad are very feral, and they were not able to be trapped yet, but these littles were brought to safety with 5 of their siblings.

Frederick is a typical puppy- playful, adventurous, curious, and full of love. He loves to play with his toys, is a more chill dude, and will not turn down a good cuddle sesh.

Like his sister, Frederick is very food motivated and is working hard on his puppy manners. He is working on her house training. He is also doing very well learning how to walk with a leash.

Frederick is great with meeting new canine pals and has been respectful of the resident chickens.
