Dbl-K Winnin' Twice was finally in a posing mood. I couldn't be more pleased with how she's maturing. One can only hope that she turns out to be half the producer her dam has proven to be. We'll find out soon!

Dbl-K Twice as High is a Junior daughter we retained because we love her maternal side so much. We bought her great granddam in 2016 with a heifer calf at side. The pair was a bargain considering today's longhorn prices. I never dreamed such an unremarkable looking, shorter horned cow would make such a positive impact on my herd. Twice as High will be contributing to the 5th generation of this great maternal line with her fall BR Mr. Right calf.

It's peaceful watching the herd wake up on a still, hazy morning like this one a few weeks ago. So quiet and peaceful amid all the other turmoil in life. The cows can't comprehend how much they are cared for and how every decision that concerns them is carefully and thoughtfully considered. Even the hard ones. Especially the hard ones. It never gets any easier.

We're excited about this newest heifer by our 10 year old cow, Winnin' Streak. "Winnie" has hit it out of the park with every calf she's produced, including 2 herd sires (one whose daughter sold for $25K at the '24 Legacy), a daughter who was nearing 90" at 4 years old, and her 2 year old daughter who just won her futurity class at Battle on the Prairie. To say this newest little girl has big shoes to fill is an understatement.

Dbl-K Leap of Faith, aka Leaper, welcomed her 3rd heifer in a row. Leaper would easily measure over 85" at 4.5 years of age if she hadn't broken one of her horns at weaning. We love her just the same, and have enjoyed watching her color develop as she matures. All three of her calves have been really nice. This one is by 96" Wheels Up, owned by the Nancy Dunn/RJM Farms Partnership. We think she's off to a great start!

811's flashy little heifer spent her first week of life separated from the herd due to a flash flood that occurred shortly after she was born. While the flood was far less serious than what others have recently faced, the creek current was swift enough to trap this pair on the opposite side from the rest of the herd. 811 was careful to keep her baby away from the creek and out of danger for several days. They were finally reunited with their herd when the creek returned to normal. I believe 811 deserves mother of the year for her heroic efforts.

811 aka Dunn Respecting with her 2-day old heifer calf (on left). This is her 12th natural heifer. She's had only 1 bull calf in her lifetime. She turns 16 this year and still has a perfect udder, teats, and topline. Here she's introducing her beautiful calf to a half-sibling. Yay 811!!!!

This is Dbl-K Twice the Price. She just turned two years old and is another of our top heifers from the '22 calf crop. We can't wait to see her BR Mr. Right calf this fall. Her dam, Pricey Pony, has been an outstanding producer for us.

I’m truly honored that our very own Dbl-K Winnin’ Twice placed 1st and Dbl-K Twice as High tied for 5th in Class 9 of Battle On The Prairie Futurity. I honestly didn’t think we had a snowball’s chance of placing after I saw the competition. Many, many thanks to the judges for appreciating my animals even though they weren’t in traditional show condition. They were pulled directly out of the breeding pasture without having been on feed, so for those who think only overly conditioned animals win, that’s not always the case! Unfortunately, I left early and missed the awards, but am so grateful for the dear friends who called during my drive home to let me that we won. Also grateful for the new longhorn friendships that were made and stories shared between old friends, because that’s really what it’s all about. We participate in futurities for the fellowship with other breeders and as a form of marketing our program (although a little extra cash is always nice 😉). Thank you again, Joshua Dinwiddie, for making that possible.

Hallelujah! Overlook finally gave us a heifer!!! It seems like forever ago, but we added her to our herd 3 years ago because we loved her large frame, twisty horn, and crazy color. We can't wait to see if this little one brindles, roans, and speckulates like her beautiful dam. Welcome to Double K, little one!!

Dbl-K Winnin' Highness welcomed her 3rd heifer in a row last week. Not yet 5 yrs old, Highness is a big girl with beautiful twisting horns that should hit 90" this year. She comes from our most productive maternal line - the matriarch being a little known cow named Streaked Glass (Shy Streaker x Win Glass). The contribution these females have made to our herd has been invaluable. This little one is the 4th generation of these great producers.

We love the wildflowers, but we're ready for the grass to turn on. Praying for some rain soon. While most of Texas has been blessed with an abundance of rain lately, we have not. We've recorded less than 2" at our place since January.

We wish to thank Bryan and Karen Allen of Circle A Longhorns for the use of BR Mr. Right these past few months. We hate to see his time here come to a close, as he truly is a gentle giant - an absolute gentleman; not to mention his beautiful color and conformation. Pictures just don't do him justice!!! We used him on a very special set of females that we're really excited about. We can hardly wait for fall calving season!!! Thank you Bryan & Karen!

Not yet 5 yrs old, Dbl-K Winnin' Highness (right) is just shy of 87" and expecting her 3rd calf any day now. We're hoping she makes it 3 heifers in a row. Dbl-K Respectfully Dunn (left) will be calving soon too. She's only given us bulls so far. We're ready for a heifer!

And away we go.... Our first calf of the season has arrived and it's a heifer! Her sire puts brindle on almost all of his calves, but momma is parker brown. One thing is for sure - she won't stay red! Will she brindle or turn parker brown? Let me know in the comments.
