Meet Angel 😇Angel was surrendered to GRRACE by her previous owner, who did not feel they could give her the attention and care she deserved. She is around 1 1/2 years old and weighs 58 lbs.

Angel is a ball of energy, love, and independence. She has the sweetest puppy dog eyes and has so much love to give to the right person(s). When we first received Angel, she was a bit unsure of the world and people around her. She has quickly learned to adjust to her environment and is making large strides in her training. Angel loves playing with her foster dog brother Finley, chomping on a bullystick and/or rawhide, playing with her toy shark, and rolling around on her back.

Luckily, Angel LOVES her crate. She is potty trained and has no problem sleeping in her crate overnight. She is an independent lady who enjoys cuddles, pets, and attention, but usually in small doses and on her terms. Generally, Angel is more interested in playing than being cuddled, but when she does cuddle it makes the moment even sweeter.

Overall, Angel has come so far within just the month we’ve had her. She is goofy, loving, playful, smart, and has just the right amount of s***k to her personality. Angel would make a great addition to a home with or without dogs (as long as the dogs are tolerant), a fenced backyard, and a lot of love to give.

Angel can jump on people at times so she will need some help learning how she is supposed to act around younger children. Angel does have a large prey drive so she would need a home without cats or other small animals.

To be considered for Angel you MUST live in Indiana and have the following:

❌🐱No cats
💕Patience and the willingness to continue her training to make her be the best dog she can be

We are honored to be selected by The Creative Kind to benefit from their August 2024 art auction. Several artists are featured this month, including GRRACE adopter Ellen Brenneman! This month's offering is even more special because Ellen is dealing with health challenges that require her to step away from her creative work for potentially a long time.

For those who aren't familiar, The Creative Kind group consists of several artists with a common goal: to spread beauty and humanitarianism through the gift of art. 20% of all profits from every piece sold goes directly to a charity of the artist's choice.

- The auction will open on August 20 at 11:00 am E and close the same day at 9:00 pm E.

- The day before the auction opens, an album is created which organizes all of the available pieces in one place.
- When the auction opens, each piece will list starting price, size, medium, shipping charges, and other information. All bids are placed within the comments section. Please check back frequently to see if you've been outbid!
-Once the auction has closed, winners are notified and payments are collected via PayPal. Once paid, your new art piece will be on its way to you!

💫Foster Feature Friday Pt. 2

“Our sweet Brody unexpectedly passed away from cancer in May 2024. Our hearts were shattered and our house was terribly quiet. We decided that we could either be sad and lonely or bittersweetly sad but find joy in helping another dog. In June 2024, we got our third foster: Sammy. Except we never stopped fostering Sammy and foster failed/adopted him ❤️

In total, we have fostered 3 dogs officially for GRRACE and temporary fostered 2. Temporary fostering is another great way to dip your toes in the fostering pool without committing for too long!

Overall…

My favorite part of fostering is being able to see the transformation from beginning to end of a dog who needed a new opportunity in life. It’s amazing what routine, patience, and love can do. Don’t set expectations - just take it day by day. If I had a question, I had a foster representative and whole GRRACE community who could help me!
The hardest part of fostering is the saying “see you later”. Its 110% worth it when the dog leaves with their adoptive family. You feel bittersweetly sad and joyful but at the end of the day - it should not deter you! Give the adoptive family your number, stay in touch/offer to babysit, and it will never have to be a goodbye 😂

But what matters the most is learning to not listen to the “what ifs” and coming up with excuses on why it can’t happen. What matters the most is opening your heart AND mind up and changing the trajectory of a dog’s life ❤️“

💫Foster Feature Friday Pt. 1

“We got our first Golden, Brody, in Feb. 2018. We had just moved to Indiana and I was completely naive about rescue, so our first Golden was from a breeder. As Brody grew, so did my exploration of meeting other dogs and their owners. I met wonderful people within the Golden community and that evolved into my first unofficial rescue mission with GRRACE.(Unofficial rescue mission involved spontaneously driving two hours away to pick up a golden puppy and safely rehome it to a friend- it had lived outside its whole life!).

In 2019 I started working as an intake representative for GRRACE, meaning I am one of the initial people a surrendering owner works with to safely rehome their Golden. I loved volunteering my time for this, and knew I was making an impact. But…knew I could do more with our hearts and home.

In March 2021 we got our first foster: Lucy. Before we started fostering her, we felt nervous and excited. Lucy’s owner had passed away and we would be her first home since the passing. She was scared and kept to herself in her bed the first few days. Brody was exceptional and knew to give her space, and show her the routine of the house. His confidence helped her to grow and slowly but surely, we got to see her personality start to shine. Six weeks later she was adopted to the best family we could have chosen - my husband’s parents!

In Jan. 2022 we got our second foster: Teddy. He was found as a stray and had no other background info other than he was anxious to get out of the shelter he was at. He was a Nervous Nellie but SO thankful to be in a safe and quiet space. He loved the interaction of another dog and the physical touch of humans. As a foster, you get to do meet and greets and choose the adoptive family for your foster dog. I met 3 lovely families but knew once I met “the one”! It made our “see you laters” to sweet Teddy a bit easier knowing he was with his perfect family. And the best part? We still get to babysit at least twice a year!”

🌟AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION🌟

Hello! My name is Freya, I’m about one year old which means I’m still just a playful little girl! I’m very petite at just 30 lbs.

I came to GRRACE in June after 2 months at a shelter in Lafayette, where I was taken after being found as a stray. When the shelter got in touch with my previous owners via my microchip, they said I had been missing since December and they were no longer able to take me back 😢

My foster family has taught me so much about re-learning how to live in a home. I have a furry foster sister I follow her around pretty much anywhere she goes!

Some pesky habits I haven’t kicked are chewing on blankets and digging in the yard. It’s just my puppy curiosity. My foster parents just have to remind me what my toys look like, and then I’m a good girl!
I still don’t like it when anyone approaches me while I’m playing or wandering around. ESPECIALLY when I’m outside. I do let my humans approach me when I’m in my comfy spots like my dog bed, the couch, or their big bed. Also, my crate is my safe space and I do a good job in there when my humans are away. I sleep in my crate and I’m very good throughout the night.

Having been a stray, I did test positive for the antibodies for Lyme disease and whip worms. These things don’t affect my overall health, and from what the vet tells me I’m a normal, healthy pup!

I have so much more to learn and I’m ready to do that in my forever home. My perfect family is one that is home often and has another dog. I’ve never been around cats, but I’m sure if they give me my space I’ll give them theirs! All in all, as long as my family is patient with me while I’m learning to trust them, we’ll get along fine.

✨GRRACE Success Story✨

“Our adoption story: After we lost all our beloved goldens, Styx and REO, and Seger, then our son left for college, our house was so empty. As new empty nesters, we took some time to enjoy ourselves but still missed…everyone. So we signed up as foster parents with GRRACE and waited for a foster that we could pamper and help fill their, and our void. Expecting a golden doodle or adult golden, we received notice within 3 days of our approval for a puppy from an Amish puppy mill breeder- 4 pups 14 weeks old, born June 1, 2023. We accepted one, were told we could name him, and named him Yolo because, well, “You Only Live Once” And we thought we’d be fosters only 😂😆 so didn’t carry on the rock band names. We knew we foster failed after a week and adoption was final January 2024. Yolo is a mix of all our furbabies- ornery, funny, happy, loving, but add in very curious, mischievous, an all night bed hog, and an eater and stealer of everything! Yolo is very attached to our son, who has Down syndrome, and is home for the summer. We are thankful we decided to foster and that Yolo is now our forever boy.♥️ And he’s in the GRRACE 2025 calendar to boot 😁”

“About a month ago, I picked up a scared, roughly 1.5-year-old golden with a heartbreaking story from a shelter. She’d been found as a stray a few days earlier, brought in with a gaping wound on the side of her head. Had she not been a stray, cruelty charges would have undoubtedly been pressed.

Yet with tons of TLC from her foster family through , her wound (cause unknown) was stitched, and she healed without any issues. Best news? She was adopted the other day! Check out how much the time in foster care changed her - from riding in my car (pic on the left) to being at her new home (pic on the right).

This is why we rescue. It’s often not easy and doesn’t always come with happy endings, but fortunately for Pixie, it did.”

June Intake + Adoption Snapshot 🗓️

In June, 8 new dogs were GRRACE’d, coming to us from a mix of commercial breeders, owner surrenders and as strays. Thanks to our fosters and volunteers, we were able to step in and these dogs are now safe and already getting a taste of the good life!

Additionally last month, 10 dogs were adopted by loving families and we’re so thrilled for them (dogs and people)! 4 of the 10 stayed put and were officially made part of the family by their foster families, and 6 went to new and previously approved applicants.

As a reminder if you’re considering adopting through GRRACE, we encourage you to get pre-approved by submitting an application before you see a dog you’re interested in adopting. This allows our team to screen your application, conduct an interview and home visit, and contact you directly when a fitting dog becomes available. This is why many GRRACE dogs are never even posted on the website!

We also are always in need of more fosters - we cannot say YES to more dogs than we have fosters for.

GRRACE Success Story 🐾

“We lost our last Golden (Bently) about a year ago to cancer. We decided after 9 months that we were ready to adopt another pup. We applied to GRRACE and ended up adopting Daisy. She came from a puppy mill to a foster home and then to us. She was very timid and afraid of pretty much everything at first. We couldn’t even get her to eat or drink for a few days. We had to hand feed her or bring her food to her and she would only eat lying down. We’re guessing she ate in a crate a lot. We couldn’t get her to potty much either. The poor girl just didn’t know what to do. Six weeks later she is really starting to thrive! She can’t wait to eat and fusses if we don’t hurry to get it to her 😂 she does potty on her own now and LOVES to get rubs and treats. She is the sweetest pup and we are in love with her. She is still timid at times a little skittish with new noises or motion but is doing remarkably well all things considered. We are so happy she’s made her way into our lives 🥰”

We love to hear that Daisy is thriving and living the life she deserves!

🌟Update: ADOPTED🌟

Meet Sasha! Sasha is a fluffy blonde 5 year old that weighs around 55 lbs. She was surrendered to GRRACE when her previous owners moved and were unable to take her with them.

Sasha spent the majority of her previous life as an outside dog so she has really enjoyed living indoors and being part of a family. Sasha loves being around people, is a world class snuggler and loves following you everywhere. She does think that she is a lap dog and will seek out any available empty lap to try and cuddle. She’s not a large golden so she easily fits into a lap. However, don’t let her size fool you, while she’s a cuddler and a sweetheart of a golden, she is a strong girl.

Sasha is housetrained, knows sit, comes when called and walks well on leash. While she does get along well with other dogs on walks and through the fence of her yard, she does not do well having other dogs in the home and needs to be the only dog. She has not been exposed to cats. She was initially crated but now has free run of the house.

Sasha can be very enthusiastic and may jump on people. She would not be the best fit for homes with young children or elderly adults as she may knock them down. She is getting better but is still a work in progress and will need additional training.

Sasha is a really sweet girl and is anxious to find her forever family. Is there someone out there who is willing to love her as much as her foster family does? She’d make a great Netflix buddy! Please raise your paw and get your application in.

GRRACE Success Story 🐾

“In March we lost both of our beloved dogs within a week of one another. Our 16 year old Yorkie Parker, and our chocolate lab River who was 12. We rescued River at age 4 and she had never been loved as a pet or lived indoors. She was our soul dog no doubt. River was born on leap day in 2012 and named Leaping River at birth. Once we lost her I knew she would bring us our next dog. I wasn’t sure how but I knew it would be clear. A month after losing her I was scrolling FB and saw my friend Lisa Mitchell had shared a post from GRRACE featuring a sweet little guy who was born on leap day and named Leap. It was an instant knowing that River had sent us a little brother. We quickly filled out the application and went through the process to become approved. River was working her magic from the rainbow bridge because as luck would have it, foster mom was unable to do meet and greets for the puppies prior to our approval. I shared our story with the foster mom who rallied in our favor to get little Leaper. Luck in our favor again, our boys had Prom the day families were going to meet and take home pups so we set up our time a day earlier. We knew we would go the rescue route again, we had no idea it would be so soon and it would be a puppy. He is such a delight, fun, playful, lazy, part lover and part pterodactyl. A perfect match. ❤️”

Goldens are waiting for our help but we can’t say YES to them without YOUR help! We particularly need fosters with no other pets but all foster applicants are welcome and needed 💙❤️

All dogs that come to GRRACE go to a foster first before they are ready to be adopted- and some are adopted by their foster families if everyone feels it’s the best fit!

🐾GRRACE covers veterinary costs- fosters cover food, treats and toys.
🐾A structural fence is preferred but not required. However, foster dogs are flight risks and should always be kept on a double leash when outdoors.
🐾A dedicated Foster Coordinator assists at every step of the way, and can even help if fosters need a dog sitter for vacations.
🐾 You decide if a dog is the right fit for you before committing to fostering him or her.
🐾Expect to be patient and provide love and affection to your foster dog- many have never experienced a warm home or loving pet.

🌟Update: ADOPTED🌟

Meet Marlin! Marlin is 4 years old and weighs around 75 lbs.

Marlin is a sweet, goofy, high energy, big boy. He loves to play and go on walks, and he will happily walk for miles at a time. An active, high energy family who wants to take him on hikes, or even go on runs and jogs, is a must. No couch potatos for this guy! Marlin gets along with other dogs and loves to play—but Marlin can be overwhelming to some dogs with how much he wants to play! He constantly asks his current foster brother to play with him and has trouble leaving him alone.

Marlin does have some resource guarding issues and has some trouble sharing a water bowl or eating his food near other dogs. He takes gentle correction well. However, if he feels threatened or fearful (yelling or harsh correction) he will let you know with a growl. He will need a family that has patience and is willing to continue working with him on positive reinforcement and gentle correction training. He’s always very sorry afterwards, and comes for snuggles!

Marlin likes children and plays well with them. He doesn’t get on the furniture and he sleeps in a dog bed right next to his people. He does not like to be alone—he wants to be with you! He does need to be crated when left alone—he will countersurf or even raid your garbage can! He is housetrained and knows sit, stay, come and shake commands.

A structural fence would be nice but is not required for Marlin!

His foster family wants you to know that they’ve really enjoyed having him. He’s a sweet boy who needs an active, patient, gentle family! Could that be you?

That feeling when you’re GRRACE’d as a 10 year old girl after spending 7 years tied to a tree with only a dog house as your shelter 🫠

But bless the Good Samaritan who sounded the alarm and got her to safety, and her foster family who made it official 🥹We’re so happy this is Goldie’s new reality.

Sharing a very special GRRACE success story today 🥲

“On Feb 19th my older daughters and I were on our way home from their dental appointment around 11 am. We live in the middle of no where. We were 1/4 mile from home and found a Golden Retriever in the middle of the road. I couldn’t leave her there, it was a blind spot and she’d definitely get hit. I put her into my car, immediately noticing she’s pregnant. We drove to the neighbors and knocked on doors. Posted on social media. Called both shelters in the surrounding counties. Had her scanned. No one claimed her.

A friend recommended I contact GRRACE. It was such a blessing! I have rescued pregnant mothers before, 1 dog and 3 cats. I know the expense of puppies and us paying out of pocket this time around just wasn’t in the budget. GRRACE stepped up immediately. When I told them I had experience they asked if I’d be willing to foster, so we did!

We named her Sunshine because my oldest daughter said she showed up like a ray of sunshine ☀️Feb 29th, just 10 days later, Sunshine delivered 7 puppies.

We loved them so much. My 5 kiddos loved on them constantly and so far we have gotten so many compliments about how lovable our pups are in their new homes ❤️”

This story embodies the spirit of rescue and we are so grateful Jessica and her family opened their hearts and homes to these precious pups. Please note Sunshine and her puppies have all gone to their forever homes 💛

Clover is doing so well in her foster home, but she deserves a forever family! She has come a long way since her days as a puppy mill mama, clearly loving attention, play time and the coziness of a home. Clover can be fearful of men, particularly at first, so a home where a woman is the primary caregiver would be the best fit for her. She is considered a flight risk due to her background, so a secure fenced in yard is a requirement. Clover needs patience, a calm environment and lots of love.
