For National Dog Bite Prevention Week, Aeris and I are doing some muzzle training! Any dog can bite under the right circumstances, and anyone with a dog (especially a larger dog) would benefit from getting their dog conditioned to wearing a muzzle. The first step is making the muzzle something fun for the dog to interact with. I smeared some peanut butter inside for this quick session, and as you can see, Aeris was really into it. 😍 Note: I won't fully attach this to his head until we've done several more sessions and he's very happy and comfortable placing his head in the muzzle. We're keeping sessions fun and short. Once I get the point where I feel like I can secure it, I'll only leave it secured for a few seconds at a time and reward him heavily each time, working up to longer and longer amounts of time each session. I want him to be totally comfortable and not ever feel trapped!
