We rescue stray, sick and abused animals and find them homes. We organise spay and neuter clinics. Rat poison was the way they used to control strays population.

in 2013 Stasya Briggs and Mike Heiner bought and rebuilt a beautiful bed and breakfast in Barra de Potosi, Gro, Mexico, - Hacienda la Rusa and a few months later Stasya witnessed stray dogs dying from poison. Village after village , Stasya went to talk to people and authorities and promised she would take care of the problem a humane way . She started to catch dogs and cats and drive them every d

ay to the SPAZ and local vet to spay or neuter. This is how an animal welfare project Amigos de Animales has started . Hard work of the founder and the group of amazing volunteers have resulted in numerous Mass Spay and Neuter clinics , 7000 + animals sterilized and hundreds rescued , fostered and adopted. what Amigos de Animales do :

* we pick up dogs & cats, take them to a local vet , pay for sterilization, return them back home or street

* we organize and pay for low cost or free mass spay and neuter programs and clinic

* we rescue, foster, treat, feed and vaccinate stray, hurt, abandoned animals

* we take animals we cant save to be euthanized and we stand by their side, providing last comfort

* we look for ways to transport animals up north where they have better chances to find a loving home

Amigos de Animales August spay and neuter clinic completed!

188 animals were spay and neutered in total !

So much gratitude goes to our insanely hardworking vet, Eunice Cuesta
and our amazing team for this clinic - Gris, Kira, Mark, Adrianna, Verónica, Erika, Carlos, Yunuen y Pavan ! These guys are absolutely fantastic, just imagine insane work hours at summer heat of tropical Guerrero , bugs, ticks, sweat and blood. a big shout out for their commitment , dedication and work ethic !

as you remember we had to cancel the July clinic due to lack of funds , I was afraid we would have to cancel August clinic too, but thanks to Christine and her family this weekend we will have 2 days clinic and 100+ dogs and cats will be living a happier and healthier life and will not produce 1000 + little unwanted babies

Mass spay and neuter is the only way to control overpopulation and avoid cruelty and pain! 🙏

Christine and her beautiful family are tgw loving parents of Amigos 3 furry babies - Maddie, Lucy and Ruby !

🐾 On average we sterilize 100-200 animals during 2 days clinic.

Finally, the day has come and Gris had her surgery done!!!

The last few years were very painful and challenging for our hard-working stubborn Sanctuary manager , the time head come she was not able to walk at all , but today we are sure in very short time , she will be running with dogs and playing with Kitties again!

every single one was found as a newborn in the trash … in the jungle… in the box on our doorstep , and then bottle fed , bottom cleaned .. you know the drill …

Another Amigos de Animales spay and neuter clinic completed!!!!

109 animals were spayed and neutered in total this weekend. So much gratitude goes to our insanely hardworking vet, Cuesta and her little team !

To all the responsible and kind owners who registered their pets to be sterilized. These families were so lovely . So many heartwarming moments when ppl are thanking Amigos and you, Family !

And to a couple amazing volunteers who came to rescue !

The biggest shout out to my soul sister Gris, for my baby girl Veronica , for Carlos, Erika and Adriana , I am in awe of their commitment , dedication and work ethic.

To Carol , my bestie and absolutely incredible superwoman , you inspire me every day ❤️ to Pam , our amazing treasurer and financial person , who tiresly makes sure Amigos are staying above ground !

And to all of you , our Amigos Family ! For your never ending love and compassion ! For sharing with us so generously your hard earned money, so we can dedicate our effort to save the world - one animal at a time 🐾🐾🐾

We are heart broken to see so many dogs in the villages around Zihua and Barra de Potosí with advanced TBT cancer .

Amigos next spay and neuter clinic is February 8 and 9 .

Another amazing Amigos spay and neuter clinic 🐾 💪

120 dogs and cats got sterilized and have a chance for a happier and healthier lives . Thousands and thousands of unwanted puppies and kitties will NOT be abandoned mistreated and abused … and all of this thanks to YOU , our tribe , our people , our Amigos family .. and thanks to our little hardworking incredible dedicated team ❤️

We were aiming for 150 , but , unfortunately , only were able to collect donations to cover 120 . We will do better next time ! ✊

Next clinic is scheduled for February, 2025

Our Story

in 2013 Stasya Briggs and Mike Heiner bought and rebuilt a beautiful bed and breakfast in Barra de Potosi, Gro, Mexico, - Hacienda la Rusa. The property's purpose started to alter when Stasya and Mike rescued abandoned newly born kittens. Stasya and Mike have started an animal welfare project Amigos de Animales of Barra de Potosi. from 2013 till 1016 Mike's and Stasya's hard work resulted in 700 animals sterilized and dozens and dozens rescued , fostered and adopted. in 2016 Shelley Juss joined Amigos de Animales and ever since, two passionate ladies Shelley and Stasya have been tirelessly working on rescue, sterilizations and education.

Edgar and Gris have been volunteers for Amigos free and low cost Spay and Nueter clinics and without hesitation became caretakers of the Safe House for our rescues.

Mitch , Patty and Pam joined the little army in fall of 2017 and ever since the team works together : * we pick up dogs & cats, take them to a local vet or SPAZ, pay for sterilization, return them back home or street * we organize and pay for low cost or free spay and neuter programs and clinic * we rescue, foster, treat, feed and vaccinate stray, hurt, abandoned animals * we take animals we cant save to be euthanized and we stand by their side, providing last comfort * we look for ways to transport animals up north where they have better chances to find a loving home what you can do: * donate, donate, donate - this project is supported by kindness of your donations * organize a fundraiser or event of any kind to raise money to support the project * foster or adopt or transport an animal up north, believe us, its easy!
