Update on Marshall

Six days ago, Marshall arrived at the Small Animal Hospital at Texas A&M University and was brought inside on a stretcher, lethargic, in tremendous pain and with a huge, ugly tumor protruding from his mouth.

This morning, he walked out the front doors!
His scans showed no signs of pneumonia, his swelling has resolved and he was in a much happier mood, complete with tail wags. So we got the call that he was free to leave and we had a volunteer there ready to spoil him!

Marshall is currently resting comfortably in his foster home. He will need to return to the hospital in a couple weeks for an additional surgery which will remove the remainder of his tumor and likely a part of his jaw.

We do have the preliminary results of Marshall's biopsy, but are waiting to announce that until we have the final, official report in case anything else is indicated outside of the initial pathology findings.

Marshall has gained such a huge following and we thank every one of you for the prayers, donations, well wishes and love for this sweet guy!

And of course, we are beyond grateful for the professionals at Texas A&M who got Marshall through a very difficult and unpredictable time. This hospital is considered one of the very best in the country and we are so thankful they took Marshall's case. He was seen by many different specialists from many different departments and had an entire care team that all provided impeccable treatment that got him out the doors today!

Update on Marshall

Ohhh, Marshall.
Let's start with the good news....he loves to eat, which is evident from his post meal photo with food still on his nose. And we imagine it's a huge relief to be able to enjoy it without that awful tumor 💜

Now, the "other" news.... Marshall is still experiencing abnormal swelling. It's concerning his medical team as it seems to be worsening. We are waiting on additional pathology reports to determine the next course of action in his treatment.
Though we remain hopeful, we know this is a high risk situation. We are committed to helping Marshall any way we can. We are in regular contact with his team of professionals and are following their suggestions.

We've received many phone calls and messages regarding Marshall and have tried to be as responsive as possible. We know there are some we've not gotten to and we do apologize. Basset Buddies is run fully by volunteers and though we do our best to respond to all inquiries, it's not always possible. Please continue to check our page for all updates on Marshall.

We are so appreciative for all of the love and support for this sweet boy.

Marshall update

Marshall's condition is still quite guarded.
The good news is that his pain is managed, he is comfortable, eating well and handling oral medication.
The less positive report is that Marshall's blood work has shown that he has a risk of clotting. He is currently experiencing some swelling in his face and his veterinarians believe a clot is likely the reason. He will remain hospitalized in hopes of it resolving and not passing to his lungs or other critical organs. His blood work is also indicating there may be an issue with his kidney function, so that is also being closely monitored.

We know everyone is anxious to see a photo of Marshall and we will post one as soon as possible. Marshall is at a highly ranked veterinary hospital, but is not local to us in Houston. Though we are not with him personally, he is receiving SO much love and SO much attention from his medical team. We have a volunteer that we are hopeful will be permitted to visit him in the next day or two.

We thank everyone for the continued support. Our boy definitely needs some good vibes sent his way as he navigates this next hurdle on his road to recovery.

Vegas update:
Vegas went in for his 2 week follow up today. Unfortunately his front paw still had a couple of stitches because the paw takes a little longer to heal. Vega did loose 3 teeth during his dental. The best news of all! His 2 masses are Benign.. Whoooo hooo!

Marshall Update!
Marshall has had surgery and is currently coming out of anesthesia.
He has had many amazing professionals working on him today from Radiologists to Oncology Surgeons and Critical Care teams!
They were able to remove not all, but the bulk of his tumor and it has been sent for biopsy. Results will take about 5 days to return. No bone removal was done at this time and his jaw was not broken which is all great news!
We are SO ready for him to finally have some relief. We should know more about his status tomorrow.
We have no new photos to share currently as he is just out of surgery and starting to wake up.
Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU for all of your support!

He has been released from the ER and is transferring to a top ranked veterinary hospital for additional care and specialist consults.

We will update as we have more information.
Thank you to all of our supporters for your continued well wishes for Marshall.
