FAQ
What is the “Inherited Herd Animal House”? -Simply put, it’s the house and animals that were left behind after my relative passed away. She was an animal hoarder, and these are what remains of her original hoard. Why do you still have so many? Doesn’t that make you a hoarder? Why don’t you call someone? - I have been in contact with the local Humane Society, ASPCA, and our county’s Animal Control office, as well as a number of rescues, sanctuaries, and shelters. There are no protocols in place, and if they do not have room at their facilities, they simply don’t have room. Furthermore, most of the animals are damaged mentally and/or physically, as well as several being senior age, and are “undesirable” to potential adopters. Whatever pets were able to be re-homed to loving families are no longer here. If you or someone you know wants to give a few good, loving years to an old cat that’s had it pretty bad, please reach out. I do not take in or acquire animals. I have one dog and three chickens, personally, that are not featured on this page. What’s the purpose of this page? -More than anything, it’s to network. I have a few pages revolving around the situation here, each focused on a different aspect. The Inherited Herd may have to make a move, as the other relatives in the family would like to oust us from the Animal House (paperwork error, legal drama, etc, all fodder for another page). I feel it’s important to have people in the loop, and in our corner. It’s also very expensive to keep the Herd going, and of course, we are welcome to any sort of help that is available or made possible for us, so we have a Plumfund linked from this page as well. I was originally entrusted the hoard and home with the intention of each animal getting to live out their lives in their home here with me. When it became apparent we wouldn’t be able to stay, that is when the re-homing began. Meanwhile, we are in limbo, trying to provide quality of life upgrades when and wherever possible to all the animals. When we have to relocate, they will come with us. Be a part of our journey.
