Leash work with a reactive dog does not need to involve violence. Within 10 minutes this little lady went from derailed to handling like a Ferrari. 🐶🩷 how did I do it? Communication, mutual respect, and boundaries that are set with love. Note: every single time I tug the leash, it was with one hand for a 60 pound dog who was lunging. 👏Force. 👏Is. 👏Not. 👏Necessary.✨ when she jumped, the ball of my foot stayed on the ground and I nudged her off of me with my knee. That way I did not hurt her, but was able to maintain my personal space.✨ I made sure to put a gentle negative on negative behavior immediately rather than “hoping “her behavior would improve. This was especially important doing step work on the porch.✨ she’s a good sweet girl who does not deserve to live a life of negatives, so for every negative I had to place on her unsavory or rude behavior, she received 10 positives. that’s my 90/10 rule. ⭐️✨ she’s not a bad dog. She just sucks at being human. She’s not giving me a hard time. She’s having a hard time.
