Operation Pets Alive is an all-volunteer 501(c)3 nonprofit striving for a No-Kill Montgomery County. Our Trap, Neuter and Returned (TNR) program.

Since our formation 10 years ago we have focused on four life-saving programs. We alter and vaccinate cats now living in managed colonies. This limits breeding and reduces intake of cats and kittens at our local shelter. Our Targeted Spay and Neuter program is currently working on an “In- clinic Clinic” concept which will bring low cost spay and neuter services to those areas in Montgomery County

that turn the most animals into local shelters. We have also partnered with another non-profit, K-9 Corral, to alter 1465 dogs in New Caney, Splendora, Porter & other areas of east Montgomery County where resources for having pets altered are limited. We have adopted over 1050 dogs and cats to our local community through our Foster/Adoption program. All are up-to-date on vaccinations, spay and neutered and are placed in suitable homes. Finally, our transport programs, Pups on Trucks, Flight for Life, & Puppies and Kittens with Wings, supplement local rescue efforts by sending “at risk” dogs, puppies or kittens to partnering shelters and rescues in the Northeast, and other areas of the country where these transport candidates realize a 99.9% save rate. The average live-release rate for our area shelters is currently 50-60%. As of January 2016, OPA has transported over 3,000 local dogs and kittens to families in Northeast, and other areas of the country where there is a greater demand for adoptable pets. 🐾 Barkley Update!

We had the special opportunity to visit one of our previous fosters, and some of you may remember him—BARKLEY!!! 🖤

Barkley was once on the euthanasia list at MCAS for being labeled "dog aggressive," but let us tell you—this goofy, friendly, goodest boy turned out to be anything but aggressive! He spent about 4-5 months with his amazing fosters, where he blossomed into the absolute sweetheart we knew he could be. 💖

And now, almost a YEAR after being adopted, Barkley is living his best life with the most perfect family we could have ever hoped for! His wonderful parents and his dog sister, Lucky, are still as in love with him as the day they brought him home. 🏡 They recently moved closer to us in Spring and graciously invited his fosters to visit.

We are SO happy to report that Barkley is thriving and in the most loving home imaginable. It was a joy to see how happy he is, and we couldn't be more grateful for the family who chose to give him a second chance.

Our End of Year Fundraiser is in full swing, and a few of our foster program residents wanted to help us say THANK YOU for all your support this year. Meet Benji and Pup Pup, two inseparable best friends hoping that 2025 will finally be their year to find a loving home!

🐶 Benji (14 years old) originally joined the OPA foster program in 2013. Once a feral dog, he’s come a long way—he’s crate trained, housebroken, and walks well on a leash. Benji recently returned to us after his adopter of 9 years sadly passed away. He is a loyal, low-key companion who loves treats, car rides, and hanging out with his sidekick, Pup Pup.

🐾 Pup Pup (2 years old) is Benji’s best friend. She’s a happy, petite pup (20-30 lbs) who’s crate trained, leash trained, and potty trained. Like Benji, she lived with several other animals before her owner passed away, and she’s great with cats!

These two have been inseparable, even sharing the same crate at night for the past two years. They’re currently in boarding and would love a foster or forever home where they can stay together.

Helping People Save Pets

Since our formation ten years ago we have focused on four life-saving programs: Community Cats, Spay/Neuter, Local Adoption and Transport.

Through our Community Cat Program we trap, alter and vaccinate free-roaming cats in Montgomery County. This limits breeding and reduces intake of cats and kittens at our local shelters. We also assist local shelters that do not yet have a Trap, Neuter, Return ordinance to save the life of feral cats turned into the shelter.

Our Spay and Neuter Program provides low-cost services to all citizens of Montgomery County with unaltered pets.

We have adopted over 6,000 dogs and cats to our local community through our Foster/Adoption Program. Our pets are showcased at locations throughout Montgomery County including at our cat café, The Great Catsby. All adoptable pets are up-to-date on vaccinations, spay and neutered, and are placed in suitable homes.
