Emmy is a beloved Mainely Mutts alum who’s looking for a soft place to land. She shared an incredibly close bond with her adopter—truly the light of each other’s lives—and since his recent passing, she’s been staying with extended family who care for her very much. While they’ve done everything they can to support her, it’s clear Emmy would thrive in a quieter home where she can settle in and build a strong connection with someone new.
At just over 4.5 years old and around 40 pounds, Emmy is a sweet girl who bonds deeply with her people. Once you’re in her circle, you’re in for good. She’s not destructive, doesn’t need a crate, and loves lounging on the couch to watch the world go by. She’s also full of personality—she absolutely loves her walks and will bark and spin in happy circles when she sees the leash. She’s a total favorite at daycare and the kennel, where she’s great with other dogs.
That said, Emmy does have a protective streak at home and has nipped multiple people who’ve entered the yard or house unexpectedly. She needs her next home to be a calm, structured environment with someone experienced in managing introductions and setting clear boundaries. We’re not sure how she is with kids, so an adult-only home is best. She may do well with another dog after a proper introduction, but she’d also be perfectly content as your one-and-only.
Lately, she’s had a few accidents in the house, something she hasn’t done since she was a puppy. This started after her dad passed and her canine sibling was rehomed, likely due to grief and stress. With routine and reassurance, we have no doubt she'll get back on track quickly.
According to a littermate's DNA, Emmy is an almost even mix of golden retriever, lab, American Staffordshire terrier, basset fauve de Bretagne, and chow chow. She’s spayed, up to date on all her vetting, and ready for a fresh start.
More than anything, we’re hoping to find someone who sees Emmy the way her dad did. If you think you might be her person, we’d love to tell you more.
