CORNBREAD age 5 died this morning in his foster home. He fought so hard to stay with us. He stole our hearts and we will miss this sweet boy so much. He came in with a bang and a lot of issues and fit right into his foster home. He loved his foster siblings and they are already missing him big time. We love and miss you Cornbread and we will see you again one day. ❤️

From the Director: We adopted ZOE on 6/28/03 - 21 years ago from BoxAR Rescue. She was rescued from TN with her sister from an abandoned home left with no food and water and several dogs had died. Our 9 year old Boxer Angel had died and Boxer Buddy a year old stopped eating, drinking and playing. We looked into TX Boxer rescues but would not adopt to us as did not live in their cities. We did not want a puppy. Soon we found BoxAR Rescue and were on our way to Hot Springs with Buddy. It was love at first sight! Zoe was 3 years old and came right in like she had always been here. That started my life and passion with Boxer Rescue. Zoe lived to almost 12 years old and died 2 days after starting Boxer Rescue of Texarkana on 1/1/12. So when you see Zoe's picture that is our profile picture, you will know she was my inspiration and the start of my life in Boxer Rescue. Amazing as I was afraid of dogs until I was 26 years old when we got our first Boxer Duke! God had it planned out and I had no idea I would overcome that fear. Currently we are only able to take care of our Hospice and Long Term Foster Boxers who are living in our Foster Homes.

Today is CORNBREAD’S 5TH BIRTHDAY!! If you have been following him you know he has Cardiomyopathy with Ventricular Tachycardia. He has episodes where he collapses and they seem to last longer each time. When he is okay he gets up and ready to go outside potty and get something to eat. He is a sweetheart and the other Boxers are worried about him. Vet told us he has limited time left. He is not feeling well today but did eat a birthday cookie. We love you Cornbread and pray for more time with you! Happy 5th Birthday!! ❤️

UPDATE: CORNBREAD had a follow up Vet exam today. We did not receive good news. He has good and bad times and during episodes he collapses and takes 30 -60 minutes to feel better. He was doing pretty well today but it can change quickly. Dr. Randy was very concerned with his weight loss in his head and body, lack of appetite, weakness, and episodes he has been having daily. Cardiomyopathy was added to the Ventricular Tachycardia diagnosis. He is a sweetheart and not leaving his Foster Mom's side. The two heart meds are helping his heart rate/rhythm but his heart is not good. Vet told us that he has limited time left and it could happen suddenly. His foster family is taking good care of him. His 5th birthday is on Monday and we want to celebrate his birthday and praying for more time! Thanks you for your support and prayers for Cornbread. Our hearts are broken as he is too young for all of this. We love you Cornbread.

** THANK YOU to three past Adopters who donated for Cornbread's Vet Bills! They have supported this rescue many times. We have enough to pay his bills. God bless you!!***

CORNBREAD who had a Mast Cell Tumor removed in January was rushed again to the Vet. His first trip was on 5/15. Xrays found he had Spondylosis and constipation. Yesterday he collapsed again and his gums/tongue were white/blue and he was so weak. By the time we got to see the Vet after waiting 2 hours in the van, his color was better and nothing was found to be the cause. Xrays showed no constipation this time. So we headed back to his Foster Home and 5 miles down the road he collapsed in his crate and was unresponsive. His gums/tongue were white/blue and he was not doing well. We rushed back to the Vet that was still open and Dr. Randy was able to evaluate him during an episode. He got an EKG and Ultrasound. He was diagnosed with Ventricular Tachycardia. We have personally lost Boxers at ages 6, 7, and 8 with Cardiomyopathy and one Boxer with Congestive Heart Failure, but not with this diagnosis. We started him on 2 heart meds last night and so far he has not had another episode. We are closely monitoring him. He will be only 5 years old on 7/1 and our hearts are broken. This is a genetic issue. We love you sweet loving Cornbread!! Please say a prayer that the meds will help his rapid heartbeat and give us a lot more time with him! Special thanks to Dr. Murray at Westridge Animal Hospital for working so hard to figure out what is going on.

Roxy another Foster in our home and Cornbread are BFF's and she is not leaving his side. She is not sure what is going on and we understand that feeling.

Update: GUNNER's leg is healing well since the Spindle Cell Carcinoma was removed. He has been going 3x a week to get the bandage/sling changed. He now has no bandage and just wears the sling a few more days. Foster Mom will be treating him at home with an ointment and watching it closely. He is loving not having a restriction and his mobility is better. He will return to the Vet in a month to get his 3 months recheck on Urinalysis/Bloodwork to monitor his early kidney disease and his leg will be rechecked too. Praying no new growths show up! We love you Gunner! We love our supporters too!

UPDATE: ROXY got her staples removed from the Sebaceous Epithelioma that was benign and doing great!

UPDATE: CORNBREAD has had no new growths since his Subcutaneous Mast Cell Tumor was removed on 1/30/24 and doing well.

05/04/2024

We met our goal to pay for Gunner and Roxy surgeries! Thank you to all who donated to help us! We also appreciate your ongoing prayers for Gunner (Sprindle Cell Carcinoma) and Cornbread (mast cell tumor-not clear margins). God bless you!

We received bad news today on GUNNER'S growth that was removed on his front leg. His biopsy report stated he has a rare and aggressive Spindle Cell Carcinoma. His surgery was extensive and he goes to the Vet every 2-3 days for bandage change and medication to help it heal and close the incision area. Vet doesn't think amputation is a good plan due to his age, weight, kidney disease, and past pelvic injuries from being hit by a car. He thinks it would be difficult for him to cope. We are keeping an eye on his leg for new growths and any changes while we look into other options. He is still on pain meds that are needed but is feeling good and getting around better. Please pray for Gunner!

ROXY's biopsy report showed her growth that was removed was a Subcutaneous Trichoepithelioma that was "benign". She will get her staples out next week and is feeling great.

**UPDATE 4/5: We met our goal to pay the VISA bill on Gunner and Roxy!

We are still waiting for the Biopsy reports on GUNNER and ROXY. Gunner has been back to the Vet several times to change his bandages and splint. Yesterday he spent the day at the Vet to dry out the incision and the Vet to observe him. ROXY is doing well since surgery and will get her staples out next week.

*ROXY, age 5, (pic light brindle) had dental cleaning, tooth extracted, Epulis cut back on some upper molars, and a growth removed off her hip. This was sent to the lab and we pray that it is not cancer. She is doing well back in her foster home.

Our Boxers can't catch a break! We wanted to let you know that GUNNER is at the Vet to have this growth removed from his leg. It is hard and it came up very quickly Vet was shocked as he had just seen him a month prior and it wasn't there. Scary as he thinks it is a Mast Cell Tumor. Biopsy will be sent to the Lab and we will update you when we know more. He does have early Kidney Disease. We love you Gunner and praying that this is not cancer!

ROXY is going to the Vet tomorrow for dental surgery/cleaning and a growth removed off her back leg. She has 2 possible infections in her gums that doesn't look good.

Please consider a DONATION to our rescue to help with Vet bills. www.boxerrescueoftexarkana.com has a DONATE button or go to Pay Pal and use [email protected]. Thank you for your support!

UPDATES: CORNBREAD, 65 lbs. got his sutures out from the Subcutaneous Mast Cell tumor that was removed. He is doing well. He is losing weight so have increased his food amount. Praying the tumor does not return. *He is the tall one in the picture.

ROXY, 60 lbs. of solid muscle had an Annual Exam. In a month she will have dental surgery/cleaning and a growth removed on her leg. She has Epulis gum overgrowth and a couple of possible infections. We can no longer see her front bottom teeth. *She is the one with the long tongue in the picture.

GUNNER, 67 lbs.. also had a Vet Exam to check urinalysis/bloodwork. His blood pressure was good and will continue on BP med. Good news that his SDMA dropped to 8 and Creatinine to 1.2. His Urine Protein dropped to 183 and needs to be below 100. He is still at early kidney disease. He feels good and we pray this doesn't get worse. *He is in the one pic sitting.

UPDATE ON CORNBREAD: We got the bad news that the big, fast growing, hard growth was a "Subcutaneous Mast Cell Tumor" that was removed last week. Vet reported it was only the 3rd time he has seen this kind of tumor in 40 years. It was not vascular. It was attached to bone so could not get complete margins. Lab report stated it is predicted that it will come back in 70 days and we are being optimistic. He could have surgery again depending on the new growth. Cornbread is 4 years old so we want him to have a long life! He was on high alert with all the activity at a busy Vet office and with his foster brother Astro was there for his Annual. Cornbread acts like nothing happened and is doing well. His Foster Home loves him everyday they have him and we take this one day at at time! Thanks for your prayers and support!!

**Thank you to Cornbread's Angels!**
They have donated $650 of the $900 needed for his Vet bills. We love you!

UPDATE: CORNBREAD, age 4, had surgery yesterday to remove a big mass. Vet reported it had a blood supply and was attached to the bone. He got as much as he could removed and the mass was sent to the lab. He had not seen one like this and didn't like the way it looked. We love Cornbread and praying for good outcome! So we wait for the lab results....... Today Cornbread is doing well. He is wearing his cone and being a sweetheart.

His bills so far are $900.00. We have not received donations to help us with expenses. Any amount is appreciated. You can DONATE at www.BoxerRescueOfTexarkana.com or PayPal using [email protected]. Thank you for your support and prayers for Cornbread. We love this boy!

This is so hard to post as CAMPUS, age 13, went to the Rainbow Bridge yesterday. She stole our hearts for so many years. She was a beautiful and sweet gal who was scared of everything from being in a bad puppy mill for many of her earlier years. She LOVED her Foster Home with the JULIENS and we thank them from the bottom of our hearts. She loved their kids, cats and dogs. They loved her so much and made adjustments for her to feel at home. She hated leaving the house and soon as she knew she was home she came alive. We thought we were going to lose her in 2020 and finally with a Cushing's Disease diagnosis the medication started helping her for 3.5 years. She just saw Dr. Randy Murray at Westridge Vet on 10/18/23 for her 2 months recheck and her bloodwork was excellent! Thanks to Dr. Randy too for taking excellent care of Campus! We know we were so blessed that she made it to 13 years old. It is just never enough time. Special thanks to another of Campus's Angels and that is Jani O'Donnell who sponsored so many of her bills. She knew Campus was in the right home and wanted to help. We will miss this sweetheart and looking through all the pics has been hard to post just a few pictures. We love you Campus.
