Eddie now has MRSA in both his front paws. He was on 24 antibiotic pills a day. We took him off his apoquel and got him an allergy shot instead that does not suppress his immune system, like apoquel is known to do.
The vets are somewhat at a loss. It’s not getting better with the antibiotics. He’s had all the tests, they did exploratory surgery, he had the antibiotic that was paired to the specific infection…nothing is working. All his vitals are strong though, so it’s very confusing. He has a referral to an allergist in a last ditch effort to see if they have a care plan for him. He is sore, but he is not ready to go yet. He’s still happy, goofy Eddie, he just rests and sleeps a lot more. He will be 10 in April and the vet says we’re on borrowed time. His clock appears to be winding down and we just want everyone who loves him to know that as long as he has a smile on his face, we’ll keep working to fix and keep him as comfortable as possible…but when he says to stop, we will. Send him your good vibes. He’s the best boy.
He’s been sleeping close by as we fix up our historic barn. His favorite thing is when we are all together outside, working around the farm.
