Our final update for Tux 🌈

R.I.P. Tux 💔💔💔 Our hearts went from joy to sorrow in such a short span of time. This just isn’t fair. The only solace is that he passed warm and safe with Lucille, and not alone on the side of a road.

Run free and sleep peacefully Tux. You should have had a long life but it wasn’t meant to be. We are shattered. 💔💔💔🌈

Update: January 1, 2026: Despite our joy over having Tux back, he is critical with FIP. Tux is literally fighting for his life. Lucille is doing all she can to treat him (she’s an expert on FIP) but we just don’t know if he can survive this. 🙏🏻💔🙏🏻💔

🎆🎊🎉 As I sit here thankfully saying good-bye to 2025 and welcoming a new year filled with hope, I must say that our rescue, Pawsitive Tails To Remember was certainly blessed on this final day of 2025!

Back in September, Lucille started seeing a mama cat (we named her Hazel) coming around searching for food and waited and watched to see if her kittens would make an appearance. Using a trap, Lucille and Marc were able to rescue this family (and a friend) and we started the process to get them spayed and neutered. Sadly, some developed FIP and have/are being treated.

One of those young cats was a beautiful Tuxedo cat whom we appropriately named “TUX” (original huh 😂). Tux was neutered and microchipped on 10/13/25 and we were getting ready to post him for adoption. Unfortunately, when Lucille was moving him between locations, in a carrier, fireworks erupted and he panicked and the carrier door popped open and just like that, Tux was gone. Lucille canvassed the neighborhood, talking to neighbors, and we held out hope, that once he settled down that he would return. He disappeared on 10/21/25.

Lucille and I held out hope that he would return or be found. As the days and weeks passed, we began to lose that hope that we would see him again.

Fast forward to today, December 31, 2025 when I received a text message from the MICROCHIP company advising me that our lost pet, TUX had been found! It’s a New Years Miracle! 🎆🎉🎊

I picked up the phone to call Lucille, praying that she would answer! She did! Lucille called his finder and he sent photos verifying that it was our Tux! Marc immediately got into his truck to travel the mile or so to pick him up.

His finder, Joseph was driving home in the rain, he a saw a cat just lying on the side of the street and he stopped. Tux attempted to run off, but he was weak and not in good shape. Joseph did not give up and he was able to catch him. He called his wife to let her know that he was on his way home with a cat! They took him to be scanned for a microchip, and discovered that he was a PTR kitty and that he was lost!

Sadly, Tux seems to have developed NEURO FIP, and he is weak, and cannot use his back legs. Lucille has already started him on B12 injections, supplements, and most importantly, GS injections for FIP. The next two weeks will be the critical time for Tux and his responding to treatment. We are beyond hopeful for him!

From Lucille this evening:

Yes. Great ending to 2025 with PAWSITIVE TAILS to Remember! Tux has lost at least a pound. Not bad considering he was missing for two months. There are many stray feral cats several streets over where he was found. I’m sure he had access to some food in this neighborhood. He has b12 , liver and joint supplements and I will be offering food shortly. I just cannot believe a GOOD SAMARITAN stopped for Tux sitting at the side of the road. At this point he is no longer sitting. He is flat out except for lifting his head . I cant get over how grateful he is . ME TOO !!!!!!!! THANK YOU ladies for being here on this Tux journey. Fingers crossed. Positive thoughts. I will need to be on the lookout for crypto as well. My friend Marilyn lives in that same area. Two of her cats developed Cryoto. One died, she was mis diagnosed. The other had FIP as well . Exciting day. Thank you to one and all. Happy New Year to all of us.

Our rescue has a wonderful group of women that joined our “Journey” Pm and it’s a social group where we can post success stories, sad stories, advice, and everything in between! We support one another and share our stories and lives with each other. It’s been a wonderful source of friendship and support for our rescue and most importantly for Lucille. We are incredibly thankful to this group for their love and support for our rescue! Some members are adoptive parents to some of our PTR cats!

Anyway, we will continue to update Tux’s progress, but we want to thank everyone for their continued support for our rescue! We truly appreciate each and every one of you! It takes a village to save these precious souls and we could not do what we without you all!

Here’s to a happier 2026! 🎊🎉🎇🎊🎉🎆

PAWSITIVE TAILS WITHOUT BORDERS

Animals know no borders. The dog and cat overpopulation issue plague both sides of the US and Mexico border. STDs are diseases endemic in the border towns of Mexico and the US. PTR is committed to making investment in spay/neuter clinics on both sides of the border, assist on a case by case basis with the medical cancer treatments of dogs and cats who have been exposed to these diseases due to lack of spay and neutering. We have provided food, nutritional supplements and basic needs for several dogs in the Tijuana area, who later come to foster in the US as we seek long term loving homes for them under PTR's umbrella.
