Let’s talk about Angoras for a minute. I recently posted a beige male up, and am now including his brother. So, I’ve gotten a lot of questions about them.
Angoras are a relatively new mutation in the chinchilla world. They have much longer fur then a normal chinchilla. I have also found they require dusting more often to keep their fur looking nicer.
Because they are a new mutation, they are considered a weaker gene chinchilla. Breeders who are working with them are constantly trying to improve their fur density, strength, and length. Size can also be an issue with them. Don’t let their looks fool you, They tend to be much smaller body size wise. All that long fur makes them look much bigger then they are……. But they are so fluffy!!!!
Breeding these guys are not for the faint of heart. Breeding angora to angora can be done, but until reputable breeders have worked with them more, it’s better to breed angora to carrier or non carrier.
Because of all these factors, angoras tend to be much more expensive then a normal chinchilla. A typical angora will cost at a minimum 1️⃣0️⃣0️⃣0️⃣, and go up depending on breeding potential, color, and quality. If you enquired about them from any reputable breeder, be prepared for a high cost!
