The Legend of the Butterfly Dog
In ancient times, Xoloitzcuintlis were sacrificed and buried with the newly departed. Most of the time, it was with their master, but sometimes it was a stranger to them. In any event, the dog was tied to the deceased with a red ribbon so that the dog wouldn’t get “loose” in the afterworld. The Xolo’s job was to guide the soul of his or her master through nine levels to reach Mictlan (heaven), then help him cross the Chiconahuapan, a river that was the last level before getting to Mictlan. According to the belief, the Xolo would swim across the river with the soul of the person on their back. A red dog was preferred because black ones were too “dirty,” and lighter colored dogs were too “pure,” but whatever color the dog, crossing the river with the soul of his or her master got the dog dirty from the water.
Once the pair reached heaven, they met Mictlantecuhtli, lord of the underworld. Mictlantecuhtli always asked the Xolo if s/he wanted to stay in heaven or return to earth. Some dogs decided to stay with their beloved master in heaven, but dogs who had been sacrificed for someone they didn’t know had no particular loyalty to them, and chose to go back to earth. In order to return to earth, however, they had to cross the river one more time.
Instead of making the dogs dirty the second time they crossed the river, the water cleansed them. These dogs returned with white marks on their legs, chests, tail, and sometimes face because that’s where the water splashed them the most. Back on earth, everybody knew that a Xolo marked this way had returned to earth from the underworld. Now, when you see a butterfly Xolo, you know that the dog is a blessing sent directly from heaven.
We thank Giovanna Suedan for the wonderful telling of this story, and aslo mention that according to the breed's AKC standard, a dark, uniform color is preferred, ranging from black, gray black, slate, to red, liver or bronze, but white spots and markings are permitted.

Okay last but not least is baby Tinsel. Happy 6 months sweet baby! Tinsel is a happy bouncy ball of sunshine. Tinsel loves to snuggle on the couch or play outside with her people. She is our final remaining baby who has not found her own tribe. She has an incredible handler focus, food and toy drive. She would make an excellent starter dog for someone interested in this breed or would be an easy Xolo for someone with Xolo experience. She will be traveling with me to OKC at the end of the month if anyone wants to meet her in person. I want nothing more than to find her people. She's such an excellent dog she deserves her chance to shine. 💞💞💞💞

Sweet Baby Banjo! He's off being the youngest member of his household doing cute boy things and laying in his window getting his tan on all day! He spends his time loving his Daddy and just being the sweet boy we know he can be. 🥰

Simon...off making a splash in Canada! He spends his time bobbing for kibble, cuddling his moms, hiking and much more. He's already started his Canadian show career. I am so proud of this little guy! 🥰 He is owned by Raven Richard-Bordeau and her Wife Carrie who fb won't let me tag.

Baby Krampfort! Ugh this little dog .... Will be stay or won't he? Jokes on us deep down I think we both knew he was staying. I love this little naked terror. He has been such a spitfire since day one. I can't wait to watch what he does. He will be making his first show debut at the end of the month. I can't wait to watch him do his thing at the end of a show lead. 💞🥰💞🥰

Up next is sweet baby Maya! Her mom isn't on facebook. They are exploring obedience and being a happy companion! Her owner will be coming out to OKC to check out and watch some sports and competitions they may want to explore in the future. Such a good girl! I can't wait to see her next week! 💕

Goodness gracious I'm behind on posts. So it's time for 6 month updates! First up we have Miss Velma owned by Jade Morfin. She's a happy girl who loves trying new adventures with her owner. They've dabbled in barn hunt and taken some basic obedience classes! The end of the month she makes her first show ring debut to start working on her AKC titles! We are so proud of this sweet girl. Picture of her now vs when she was a wee beeb! We love our pupdates we get from all of our homes! 🥰🥰🥰🥰 Happy 6 months little one! You're going to do big things!

It's a big week here! Today is our wonderful foundation girl Mavis' 4th birthday and on the 9th her first litter turned 6 months old! I will be doing 6 months updates on the munchkins this week! Let's all take a minute to say Happy day to the Birthday girl! 💕🎉

Little Miss Tinsel Tot is still seeking her very own home. She's a fantastic little girl who wants to do and please. She would be a fabulous starter dog for someone interested in the breed. She's a tad lanky right now as are all her siblings.
