Slow or Fast? I've found that hiking is an either/or situation and embracing the choice makes for a more enjoyable time out. Here, let me explain
🏃♂️
Fast- Going fast and far with lightweight bag, minimal gear, no camera, and objectives like peaks in mind. Usually aiming for bluebird days, jogging flats/downs, early starts, and quick eating trail snacks like bars and candy.

Slow- Going slow, stopping to look at rocks, large pack with all the extra clothes and food, DSLR, tripod, objectives are flexible. Targeting clouds and mood for interesting photos, taking a load of dog treats to pay for said photos, and making wraps, pulling out a bag of chips, or a block of cheese out to share. Heading off trail to discover areas, and perhaps camping under the stars (or rain in my case)
📷
I used to try and bring my camera on all hikes but I've just been happier to leave it behind some days. Its so much easier not trying to do everything at once, and never being fully satisfied. Over time, I've just been going on either extreme. I keep wishing i could be a bit faster on fast days...and stay a couple more days on the longer ones.
🏔
So here's ⬆️ slow living, where we can roll out of the tent at sunrise, dig out the dog treats from the bear proof bag, and take photos at Kool-Aid glacial lake before breakfast. Also, what is with my ability to find the coldest camping in the warmest time of the summer 🙃
