Emo’s Story

Emo went missing on Wednesday the 6th of July 2016. 24 hours later we found her in the storm drain in front of our house. She was meowing loudly, but couldn't seem to get out. We suspected she was injured. We called the fire department and had 2 trucks and 5 fire fighters come to rescue Emo from the storm drain. They planned to use the hose to flush her out, having someone on the other end of the storm pipe ready to catch her. They turned out to only need to blow air through the pipe and Emo managed to get herself out the other end. It was obvious that something was wrong with her leg, and she was in a lot of pain.

We took her to the vet that evening and they tried to bandage it up and hoped it would heal over the span of a week. When it didn't, the choice was between surgery and amputation. We chose amputation as it would be most beneficial for Emo in the long term.

Emo had her back right leg amputation on the 20th of July 2016.

3 weeks later, Emo was doing really well and was hobbling around on her 3 legs as if nothing has happened! She is a tough little cookie, and she surprised us by handling this whole ordeal extremely well! Two and a half years later, she has adjusted fantastically and is living an almost normal kitty life. We have to watch her weight so she doesn’t have too much to carry on her single back leg, and we take her to the chiropractor on a regular basis to make sure her spine is aligned.
