M&A fam, just wanted to update you, as my dear Merlin had a health scare earlier this week that landed him in the vet emergency room for two days. I am sharing with you all so you know what to look for with your own fur babies.
Merlin had been hiding under our bed, not leaving the room, not eating or drinking or going to the bathroom, and making strange vocalizations that I had not heard before. I thought perhaps he had been stressed with us having people over, but he is normally social, and he was not acting like himself at all.
When he showed no improvement and still would not leave the bedroom, I took him to emergency vet care - and I’m glad I did. He had a urinary blockage caused by crystals in his urine. He was unable to p*e, and his blood levels were getting toxic. He needed a catheter, so he received an epidural, IV, etc. He also has to be on a special diet from now on to keep any further crystals from forming.
He came home 3 days ago and is back to his old self again, doing much better. He’s not out of the woods, but hopefully he will get there. He will need a follow-up vet visit to make sure he has no new crystals in his bladder. Fingers crossed that all will be well. 🤞
The other part of this equation is to keep Galahad from bullying him, which he has a tendency to do. Stress has aggravated Merlin’s condition, so I am trying a number of things, including Feliway plug-ins, bully drops from Jackson Galaxy, and animal-grade CBD oil for Gally to keep him from bullying. Fingers crossed that these measures will work; they seem to be helping so far. 🤞
So if you see your fur babies acting strangely, don’t wait to get them to a vet. It could be a deadly situation, as this nearly was. Peace and love to you all from Merlin, Arthur and Galahad. ☮️ ✌️❤️🐈⬛ 🐈⬛ 🐈⬛
